Didn't realise VW had gotten so bad

Your point?
My point is clear , some folk make a fuss about relativity minor issues because someone else is picking the bill up , however if they had to pay full price because it is out of warranty they'd not be so keen to have these relatively minor issues resolved at their expense.irocfan said:
so it's acceptable to have all manner of rattles, creaks and groans from a new (or nearly new) car then? You must be a very easy punter to please
My BMW has had the occasional creak from the right hand side of the steering column/dash since new , a bit of hand pressure seems to stop it for about a month then it comes back.My Vantage has the very occasional creak from the right hand side inside of the boot.
Both cars were bought brand new , never even occurred to me to take it back to the dealer for them to investigate, I just don't see it as being a major issue.

This is a lot worse than the 'occasional creak' though! Sorry to say my Golf R is nowhere near the build quality of the M135i it replaced. Don't get me wrong - it's a very effective way of covering ground rapidly (and the BMW was flawed in many respects) but it shakes and creaks and rattles on a rough surface in a way the BMW never did My Vantage has the very occasional creak from the right hand side inside of the boot.

Interesting. My Skoda Superb is coming up to 2 years old and like new at 30k. Not a rattle anywhere, nothing fallen off or broken. Boring as hell but really is an excellent car in terms of its functionality (which is why we got it).
Slightly more surprising is my 2009 Brera which is also as tight as a drum at 48k. Not a rattle anywhere from the interior or anywhere else. It's very well made. Owned for 12 months now and in that time I have replaced the battery and one light bulb but no problems at all.

Sounds like people have had very mixed experiences. I bought a 2008 Jetta on 26,000 miles a little over 5 years ago, it's now on 119,000 miles and it's been solid as a rock. I've had one issue with the EGR valve and one with the turbo boost seal, but that's all.
Still runs like clock work, get the odd creak out of the interior but is a nice place to be considering it's age and mileage.

Driving round in an 8 year old Audi A4 Diesel thats covered over 110,000 in my ownership since April and 95,000 prior to that and its a great place to sit and munch the miles. No creaks or rattles etc, I love it, so much so that I plan on ordering the new S4 next year in September (Mrs Geeks has insisted I keep this one 18 months hence the timetable )

Looks like I spoke too soon
More annoying rattles have appeared. Looks like we're going to reject it. I think 7 visits to try and sort things is enough. Clearly VW are a pile of poo now.
Sounds like you having a very bad luck. Sorry to hear that, I think you might try to replace that car? it could have been anything? bad assembly, or pre mini accident during transport from factory to dealer who knows? these things happen...More annoying rattles have appeared. On a different note, not only me, my father also moved back to VW ownershp, after having quite intense and unreliable a few years with Land Rover Discovery. He's back to VW on Tiguan now, compliments a lot!
I'm not sure if its just my local VW dealer, or if its typical example of Volkswagen, but the level of service I receive from my dealer is simply shocking.
Add that to poor build quality of our 2013 Golf, and it makes for a pretty miserable ownership experience.
When I have complained to VW customer service, they seem more concerned with backing the dealership, than helping me, the customer.

Opposite to our experience regarding he dealer & customer service. The dealer has admitted that they have tried their best, but the multiple problems continue. Customer service have been involved all along, and have been very helpful. They can also see the multiple times we've trusted the dealer to get things fixed. Customer service have now backed a descision to provide us a 100% refund, or a replacement new (if available as they are now out of production), but we'd need the dealer to agree & initiate this. The dealer has agreed that a 100% refund is in order, and have initiated the relevant paperwork. It now goes to an executive board for the ultimate descision.Add that to poor build quality of our 2013 Golf, and it makes for a pretty miserable ownership experience.

I always wonder what a customer who says this (in bold) actually expects? Not particular this poster, but some people want everything for free, done yesterday, to a have a gold plated courtesy car with free fuel and a full valet with carnuba wax afterwards. "Well my E Class doesn't rattle like this Lupo does on the same unmade road" (Genuine quote from a customer donkeys year back)
Can you (Andy) be more specific?
Well the saga continues.
We officially rejected the car in December with a recomendation from the dealer and customer service that a full refund be given as the car is now out of production (so an exchange is not possible).
Earlier this month, the VW executive committee rejected our rejection and yet more rattles appeared. VW requested the car be booked in for these rattles, and a technician would be sent down to assess the car. So car booked in on the 9th Jan. Then turns out that the VW tech wasn't coming down, ut a new guy at the dealer who is an ex-VW tech would work on the car.
Two weeks later, and the car is still in the dealer. It almost came back twice in that time, but they found new issues. We were then building up to a collection tomorrow morning (21st jan) to be told today that another issue had arisen. The dealer has now said the VW UK 'enough is enough, give them a full refund'. That descision is expected monday, but while the o/h was on the phone, an email came from VW to the dealer asking for our expectations. The dealer replied on our behalf that it needs to be a fulll refund.
One of the latest rattles appears to be wires that run in the trim above the windscreen that are unclipped. I tried to have a look by removing the interior light console. I was greeted with it already hanging down about 10mm. I prised it out and I have to admit, I saw the crapiest piece of design of a trim/bracket that I've seen in a modern car. It took me 4 attempts to get it back in again without it dropping down again (bearing in mind the dealer had fitted it before I got to it).
Then there's the speaker retainers in the door trims. Gone are the screws. They now put the speaker over 3 or 4 plastics stakes, and then heat-stake them to hold them in. A great and cheap manufacturing process if done right. But it seems on our car it wasn't, as the source of a number of rattles was the speaker working loose, as the heat-staking had failed.
I sincerely hope we can draw a line under this next week, as this is without a shadow of a doubt, the s.h.i.t.i.e.s.t car we've owned. I hope VW turn the corner of their current cost-down programme, as there are some good looking cars among the mainly dreary ones. Can't see us back in a VW anytime soon.

Bloody hell! Mine is rattling away like b*ggery but I'm desperately trying not to let it get to me...
Snap! Had my GTD just over a month and theres a new rattle every time I get in it. I've got no finger nails left after biting them all off with the anxiety it gives me.Do VW hand out new finger nails as compensation?
My 2015 Golf GTD too is solid as a rock. Not a single rattle, squeak or any other noise. Compared to my E46 M3 (which does have the odd rattle, but has tons of character) it is fairly characterless, but I love it as an everyday car, plenty quick enough, lots of toys, looks good (IMHO) and fuel consumption is great. I'm due to replace it in Dec/Jan, I may very well go for another.
