Common sense says, if you already have a build slot, there should be no issue in changing spec. I have bought cars in the past where I changed the spec, the dealer usually tells you the last date before you can make any further changes to your spec before it gets locked in. The brokers are probably being lazy and not wanting to do all the paperwork and back and forth with the delivery im guessing.

Just tell the leasing company you will challenge it directly with the dealer or you will call Audi UK and check. I suspect the willingness to help you will increase two-fold

Yeah that was going to be my next port of call. I could even pay the extras to the dealer if it meant getting the best deal and service!

This review somewhat critical of the S5..so choosing to ignore.

However, it mentions ' synthetic engine noise' - I think that is incorrect, I am sure I read that the engine /exhaust is ' genuine' if that makes sense?

Yes mate, I could well be interested but wouldn't be able to take the car until May. Is it relatively simple to take over an order?

Thanks, i've seen that one. Its about the only navarra blue sportback vid I've seen. Would be great to see something that shows the colour profile and lines in that colour from a slight distance. I guess I'll have to wait a while till more start appearing

I'll think about givibg that a try. I just dont want to do anything to risk delays in delivery...I've had issues in the past when i've made changes and been told no impact on delivery date, only to find out the build date gets moved back a month or 2 as soon as the changed spec is acknowledged.

I'll have a word tomorrow and see what Audi Sheffield say themselves rather than broker.

Thanks...just what I was looking for. Not sure about those wheels though. Think i prefer the standard cavo wheels.

Same wheels on this one

I agree, much prefer the standard s5 wheels. The car I saw in local dealers had those other wheels on too. Dealer said it was " launch spec" whatever that means

Certainly doesn't sound synthetic to me... unless there is a difference in the coupe and the sportback. Can't see why there would.be a difference though.

Tlit seems the sound is coming from exhaust and not the engine as it's all rear focused.

The Mrs dtopped me off somewhere the other day and it sounded great as she drove away, even at slow speeds.

I had read that the engine note is genuine although the car makes use of resonators to make it well known to the passengers. But a resonator to me is a passive component that deliberately causes vibration to emphasise the sound that is already there at frequencies that are already there. Whereas what I am used to in the Golf is a soundaktor (or whatever it's called) that causes resonation, that is actively controlled by the car. Some other cars transmit better engine noise through the sound system IIRC but I can't remember if that is true and which cars do it. To me a resonator is still real sound, in the same way as if you had stiffer engine and exhaust mounts it would resonate through the car.

I also think that reviews are worth nothing given the variation in the ones there are available (for example) in the S5. I read one that commended the engine, in the way it pulled and the sound. Another was saying how the car didn't feel that fast (not sure what they were expecting) and that the engine sounded a bit naff and fake too.

Apart from the universal "(insert BMW name here) is more dynamic and enjoyable to drive" I aren't sure there is anything a lot in common within reviews.

There was mention of somebody adding the multi coloured LEDs to the spec (which I will possibly getting as I am contemplating the extra £500 for the light and vision pack over the VC, which adds the Matrix LEDs and the coloured LEDs).

I wonder if they try and put you off (V4B) as when all is said and done they have got their fee, and as little work as they can do between order and delivery the better on their part. And that's a way to fob the customer off (or discourage them) without looking bad. Maybe I am being cynical?
That was me mate. I emailed Fleetsauce the week before last and they simply emailed me a revised order form with the new spec which I signed and returned via email. When I logon to MyAudi I can see that the spec has now been updated to include the extended LED package.

Build date has been showing as the 20th of Feb since before xmas and is still the 20th of Feb so no change there. I would expect that changes to orders CAN be made up until the point that the order is locked down so just push the broker if you want to change spec/colour.

You're probably right that the brokers might steer you clear of making changes to an order since it's more work for them to have to consult the supplying dealer. Less work for us though!!! biggrin

I ordered from car leasing made simple in Nov, and asked them what the impact would be of adding flat bottomed steering wheel and vc to the spec. They basically told me that it would need to be a brand new order and I would essentially end up at the back of the queue. That put me off making any changes.
Rubbish that mate. It's them being a bunch of lazy gits not wanting to have the hassle of contacting the supplying dealer (Read my post above this one!)

Where can you see that the spec has been updated or which extra options have been added? Also do you have a coupe on order or a sportback? Thanks

Turns out I may be too late to change my spec, my car was bumped forwards as I am getting a cancelled order, so the car I am tracking isn't the car I am getting it seems. So that's good news, but as its due in March they say the spec cannot be amended without a delay which would put it into April which in turn would give me VED issues. The reason I was told they would honour the VED is because the car is due in March and I wasn't aware of this! Anyway I have asked them to push a bit harder to see if it will delay it for definite, but Ill be happy if I get a black car in March!

Ive just rang Sheffield Audi direct and managed to update my spec to add flat bottom steering wheel, virtual cockpit and BO sound system to pay for separately. She was fine with that and confirmed no change to build date.

Key lesson here - dont ask broker to amend as they'll tell you porkies. Go direct to dealer. Thanks to simonwhite2000 for that tip!

Oddly enough V4B said I wasn't supposed to speak to the dealer! Who was it you spoke to out of interest?
