Hi everyone,

I placed an order for new S5 sportback a few weeks ago. Went through contract cars, so was £351 per month on 9+23 profile.

I went for following spec:
Ibis white
Red leather
Folding exterior mirrors
Privacy glass

With the extra options, it came to £370 per month + £3330 initial payment (9 months) + £900 (£600 fee to contract cars plus £300 for documents/road tax etc).

Firstly how does this offer compare to the ones being offered in November? I felt it was a decent deal over the 2 years. Went for folding mirrors as I live in London (cannot believe it is not included as standard!). Wanted to get virtual cockpit but could not justify the cost on a lease deal as I was already above my budget!

Secondly, I wanted some advice regarding exterior colour. I am set on the red leather but am unsure between white/black exterior (no cost options). I have previously owned black cars and although they look great when clean, I have found them impossible to keep clean, and IMO they look bad with dust/swirl marks. Is this the case with the brilliant black? I usually prefer white generally, and have had a previous BMW with the white/red combination and loved it. However I saw a S5 sportback in ibis white the other day, and was not blown away by it. I have gone through this whole thread and have noticed others have had similar reservations regarding the colour! In an ideal world I would go for daytona grey, but again I cannot justify the extra cost frown
Mine was £336 x 23 and £3600 initial with no options + £180 fee which works out at: £11,508 and then have to add on the VC at £250. Yours works out around £12,800 but you have one more option extra.
I would swap folding mirrors for the VC if i was you. I am sure you can push the mirrors in yourself if needed.
The video below explains the VC in detail and it looks great for £250.
I thought about getting privacy glass, but as its white paint colour, think that would be good enough in the summer anyway, do more than blacked out windows in regard to keeping the heat off.

Black and red as a colour combo is my favourite but ive got for white paint and black seats. As i mentioned i wont be washing this car myself so need it to look decent even when being washed by those hand car wash places. Get a car in Black/Red, one wash and its game over.
Dont think red seats would go with white personally.

How come your so against washing your own car and choosing a colour based on what hides swirls from the local car wash best? I know its a lease but its still an S5 that your going to be glad to be seen in so choosing colour based on what hides swirls seems a very 'different' approach.

I agree! Personally I aren't sure how many people pay that much attention to swirls. Such as yourself who obviously takes v good car of your car (given you had it detailed, leave instructions for Audi to not clean it etc) then fair dos, and it will look great as a result but OTOH I don't wash my car very often, and it is often washed at hand car washes. But I accept it wont look its best so don't expect it to! You can't have your cake and eat it can you?

I have ordered an S5 Sportback in Mythos black. I agree that keeping a black car clean is a real pain, but when I saw one in the flesh (which you need to do to appreciate just how good it actually looks) it is absolutely stunning and I just had to have this colour. Not seen the solid black though, so cannot comment. I wash my cars every week so not a problem for me to keep it looking good. I do think though that you will be disappointed later without having the VC which is a superb option for £250.00 IMHO. As the other post says, go for the VC and manually fold the L or R mirror instead!

Agree - I have both the folding mirrors and VC and would easily take the VC if I could only have one. At first I saw it purely as a toy but now I really make use of the different views and find the addiitonal detail it shows on the navigation piece really useful.

Car below used to be my old Fiesta ST, first car i bought with my own money. That colour combination of Red and Black is my favourite. The seats the same colour combination too. I even added silly little black door protectors you can just see in the picture and black mudflaps.

In the picture it looks great, but i think i lost my love of washing cars having the Red paint. Just looked horrible in direct sunlight with the swirls. Even had neighbours coming over and noticing the swirls. Washing the car in freezing winter months, then it looking worse afterwards because now you could see the swirls.

I then had a silver C63 which looked great, even in sunlight as it hid the swirls and from then on i have liked the idea of hiding them. To make a Black/Red look great, you have to spend ages on it, due to swirl marks. Silver/White it might not look as good as Black/Red in excellent condition i admit. But if you will never polish/wax your car, Silver/White is a better choice of looking better most of the time, especially in the Winter months when its not washed often.

I am tempted to change colours, i really wanted the Blue i have seen online but i dont think the UK market can get it. Current ST is Blue, which is nice.
Thinking of going Silver with the Black seats, or Red with Black or Red seats. Even Black with the Red seats. But i know if i get Black/Red paint i'll wash it once get swirls on it. I might have to go to a dealers and have a look at the colours again.

Seems I am in the minority here.

I used to wash my own cars, I still have a large box in the cellar of various potions and cocktails and cloths. I remember once clay barring my E92 M3 all over including wheels, then sealing and waxing. It took two complete days.

However, now, I couldnt give two hoots. Life is far too short to be spending it washing a car. Mine all stay dirty for as long as possible and then get dropped at Tesco for the full works valet (£17) while I go read Evo in the cafe with some chips and a coffee. Much more enjoyable in my view smile

Each to their own!

I've owned my M135i for nearly two years now, it was six months old when I bought it.

Not been washed yet.

My mate reckons the wheels will "corrode", I think he talks bullst smile

Wow, you must not go down many country roads? I was struggling to tell what colour my car was before I washed it!

I'm somewhere in the middle.

Used to spend hrs cleaning the car, clay-bar and all, but recently I'm happy to give it a wash whenever it needs it, one bucket, a mit and a splodge of car shampoo, in the summer I'll dry it off after leaving it for 1/2 an hour, but that's it, 20 mins max, life is too short, but I'm spending a fair amount of cash on it so want it to look good, (for me, not the neighbours!)

If I'm busy/can't be bothered/feeling flush and it's covered in mud/bird crap I'll take it to the local £5 handwash place.

Finally if I know we are getting a dry spell, as a special treat to my carhehe, I'll black the wheels, happens about 2-3 times a year.

My wife invites a chimps tea party to dine in her car on a daily basis, along with attempting the Guinness world record to have as much stuff as humanly possible from the house strewn around the footwells and boot, so most of my car cleaning time is spent with my has-mask suit on and my trusty Henry garage hoover dealing with the fallout as I grumble, swear and throw stuff out the car and onto the drive in a temper biggrin

I'm still the 13th March, I bet you it gets registered on the 5th April or something, just my luck!

Wow! so much pondering over new cars and especially ones that cost close on 50k and not being bothered to wash it a least once a week??...and the guy not washing his for two years, that's unreal. He must really hate his car then. I would imagine two years of road salt, other crap and caliper dust has deffo buggered the alloys.

I have tried to keep my car clean in the past... but its disheartening going out on the road afterwards and it coming back about as mucky as it was before I washed it. So I make sure it is properly dirty before washing it!

I think it comes down to time for me, 2 kids, 3 dogs and a 50 hour working week takes up a fair bit of my time and energy, I love my cars but some weekends are just lost to kids football tournaments and long walks.....and that's before I try and be nice to the wife.
