Did she mention any cost for having it delivered via a trailer? Only reason I ask is because I was quoted £150+VAT lol that was an email from Fleetsauce though.
No mention of costs but I hope it's a free service otherwise I'll be heading over to Chesterfield, sorry Sheffield to collect mine! lol biggrin

You make a good point actually. If my car is as bad as Simon says his experiences says it may well be, then I probably should get Audi to do a proper job of it, at their expense. Any scratches will need to be fixed at their expense too. Question is, how would you possibly prove that any light scratches were done during transport/ factory etc instead of by the owner.

I know a few people have mentioned how clean their new cars were from Ayr Audi - anyone with any experience from Sheffield Audi?
If any light scratches were done during transport and before you signed for delivery of the car, it is down to the dealer (as the ultimate seller) to sort them out. I would leave it there to be done and INSIST on a loan car until it was. A good all round inspection first is essential, otherwise as you say, you cannot prove it. My dealer has been great so far, so hope all is well when it 'finally' arrives.

On the Audi tracker stage 3 is called "preparation", as far as I'm concerned I don't think that's anything to do with actual manufacturing. I suspect it is just meaning that all the parts required to assemble the car have now been requested ready for the assembly itself.
I'm no expert, but I did have a tour of the Jaguar factory last summer - the actual assembly of the car really won't take that long, it's the collation of all the parts that need to all be in place ready for the car to be assembled. So with this in mind, preparation must be just getting the parts ready including pressing the panels.
I'm assuming panel shop is where all all the panels are assembled before then being sent to the paint shop.
To me the assembly stage is the actual manufacturer of the car.

Mine has just gone to stage 3 as when I checked it this morning. It will be interesting to see how sooner then drops through into the next stages, but I'm going to guess that the assembly stage will probably be March 6th - which is the date that mine was showing for the build date.

Its sometimes hard to see them in typical light - if its a dull day it can be more difficult that it sounds.
The marks on my front arch I didnt even spot in normal light........

I know of a £150k Porsche Cayenne that was delivered in an absolute mess and that involved a conversation with Porsche who I believe ended up paying the bill for it all to be corrected.

Mine was in 'order received' for days, then suddenly jumped to 'quality control' in one go. After another couple of days it then said left the factory. I don't think the system is accurate in between....otherwise I would end up with just a nice piece of paper!

Not a S5, but this recent TTRS Video shows some of whats involved, there's also my favourite German, "Thomas" from Autogrrafroooggle who does a tour of the A8 factory.

Interesting that all the quality checks are done by humans with little bits of plastic.

Good video....spotless factory, and not a dirty overall or glove to be seen!

Im dying to see some more pics as cars get delivered!

Seen a few S5 coupes now in the last few days - a red one, grey one and two black ones so the cheap leases are hitting the streets I assume!

I haven't seen a single A5 or S5 on the road yet but as I live in a village and have a shop in another village 4 miles away I don't tend to see many cars full stop, although there was a nice Ferrari 488 parked outside earliercool

I'm now thinking of perhaps getting the car treated to some ceramic coating but after looking at some detailers websites last night they tend to have pricing for a new car + coating and another price if its still a new car but already prepped by the dealer. Its a little confusing on some sites regarding the costs but there's not going to be as much pre coating work required on a new car like claying etc and I don't want the interior done just outside including alloys. Am I looking at around the £400 mark or £700 mark to do the ceramic coating (Gtechiq etc) including prepping it? A mate had his 2012 C63 black done a few months ago so will ask him what he paid and who he used but can anyone else recommend a detailer in the Worcestershire or Warwickshire area?

JACOB - can the S5 be used as a wireless hotspot? I have set up Audi Connect but cant see any option for this. Also, have you set up a shortcut for changing driver modes via the steering wheel as opposed to the dash switch? How did you set this up? Cheers!
Not possible.

See my post below from Audi MMI thread

I looked at this into detail and i'm sure the AUDI SIM, although unlimited, cannot be used for WIFI hotspot. When i saw it online i thought great unlimited WIFI for free, get torrenting while in the car.

But after reading into it and from what others have said above, you need your OWN SIM card, which you would create as a hotspot. This should also disable the cars SIM and therefore, you would also be using your SIM card for the maps the car uses etc.
So can eat up massive data very quickly.
I'd try EE for a SIM, i currently pay £16.10 a month for 64GB, but that was a rentions offer.

Anything accessed via the MMI uses the cars inbuilt WIFI, so i think the maps, the petrol info and Twitter/Facebook browser maybe?
I can see why its not unlimited using the cars SIM as you could pass through 100GB's a month and AUDI have to pay whoever the network provider is for this.

Check the forum post below, i have copy and pasted the good bits
http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/...

Embedded Sim is for SOS/Emergency Services and all Audi Infotainment services (Google Maps/Napster/Aupeo!/Audi Connect). You can NOT use the embedded sim as a data connection for the Wifi HotSpot in the car.

If you plug a sim into the car then that will be used for Audi Infotainment Services + Wifi HotSpot internet access for the car. (SOS/Emergency Services continues to use the Embedded Sim)

This is the schpell on page 103 of the Q7 Brochure (August 2017)

Audi Connect Online Infotainment Services are provided via a SIM card embedded in the vehicle. The cost for data connection is free of charge during the standard 3-month free trial or included within the cost of the optional Audi Connect 36-month subscription. Data is unlimited (but you will not, for example, be able to use the embedded SIM to provide Wi-Fi hotspot services or to tether any other device to the embedded SIM).

I see what you mean. Mine is black so this maybe more obvious, but rest assured I will be looking VERY closely before accepting it. In your pics you can clearly see swirls, but there also seems to be some light scratches to the right?

Mine never hit the "Preparation" stage but to give you an idea of timings (And how inaccurate the online tracker is) this is how mine has progressed so far:

Order date = 28th October
Build date (According to tracker) = 20th Feb
"Order received" status = Showing from time of order to Sunday 26th Feb
"Quality control" status = Monday 27th Feb
"In transit" status = Wednesday 1st Mar

Well mine was on my driveway at 7:25 this morning and looks like this;

It's in lease black (solid) and spec is light with just Virtual Cockpit, Hill Hold Assist and Folding Mirrors. I don't think mine was prepared as well as others as it has been siting at the dealers since before Christmas and the dirty water marks on the internal sills was disappointing. It was driven by a delivery driver, very nice ex traffic policeman, and was showing just over 30MPG for an approx 65 mile drive. Driving round town shows 25MPG and I've just driven 200 miles, not slowly but not exactly thrashing it either, and that showed up 35MPG. I haven't really gone into the driving modes yet, just left it in auto, but I did find the accelerator pick up from standstill to be a little hesitant but perhaps the other modes rectify this.

Same happened to mine, let's just hope that there's no industrial action or adverse weather between now and the end of the month that could delay things.

Thanks and yes it is a 17 plate and I only saw one other yesterday a solid black E Class on the M25. Reading all the posts about the guys waiting (im)patiently for theirs to arrive reminded so much of the day nearly 8 years ago when my 2010MY A5 2.0T S Line quattro S Tronic turned up;

It felt like an eternity waiting for it as the A5 was a completely new model back then. In fact collecting my thoughts from yesterday it was like meeting an old school friend again who you haven't seen for a few years and they have gone on a bit of a diet and started going down the gym. Better but still very much the same. As soon as I got into the S5 the memories came flooding back with its long heavy frameless doors and low seating position in a wide car (hence why I had to order the folding mirrors).

For me the B9 looks almost too much like the B8, particularly from the side views I have posted above, and that for me almost makes the B9 look/feel (dare I say it) a little bit dated already. In fact if Audi make the B9 last the same 9/10 years they made the B8 do it's surely going to feel prehistoric by the end of its lifetime. Yes Audi have moved the game on, the interior is clearly better but not as great as many claim, and my likely MPG will probably be very similar to that of my previous A5 which for a engine that has 50% more capacity and nearly 70% more power are not to be sniffed at. But it just doesn't feel like enough of an advance to me. My last two cars have been RWD BMWs so I always knew the Audi was highly unlikely to be better to drive and this is in doubt part to the AWD and the engine being placed too far forward. But Audi always make their cars look much better both inside and out so I suppose you can't have it all for reasonably sensible money at least.

I don't mean to sound negative at all because I know I will enjoy having the S5 for two years and this is my first "performance" orientated car. I did feel certain pang of regret when I saw the pictures of the new Range Rover Velar last night but that quickly disappeared when I went on the configurator and saw the price (which is every bit as stunning as the car is to look at) and the lease deal we all got on these makes things much more clear cut in the S5's favour.

Anyway a few observations from yesterday are that the seats are the best I've ever had. I always get an aching right leg on 200 mile runs but these are amazingly comfortable without much adjustment either. They're also covered in much nice leather and look fantastic (mine are black with silver contrast stitching). Virtual Cockpit is also a no brainer for £250 and is really good. The standard sound system sounds great to me. I previously had B&O in the A5 and Harman Kardon in the F30 3 series and was never really that impressed with either. I would love to hear the B&O in the B9 though. One slight disappointment is that there is no sunglasses holder in the roof lining near the rear view mirror nor coin drawer under the headlight switch although presumably the latter is part of the storage pack.

The best review of the S5 I have read to date is this one from Autocar;

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/audi/s5

although I think it deserves 4/5 stars as driven in the real world by real world drivers is the last ounce of driver enjoyment going to be more useful than the S5's other talents? Anyway ramble over and I hope everyone gets theirs ASAP.

Quick steering wheel related question.
Does the standard steering wheel have the paddles? I've just been reading the online specifier and both the heated and flat bottom steppe ring wheels list paddles, but the standard doesn't say anything about paddles!

I have assumed that a car of this type will have paddles.
Both the standard and flat bottomed have paddles.

Thanks, an interesting comparison. I was wondering if I had made a mistake by not having the B&O system as I do like my music whilst driving, but the cost put me off. Any opinions on this anyone?
