Golf GTD Estate, anyone got one?
Discussion
So, the day before the 'new' Golf is revealed ( https://youtu.be/XxWrSoPCKhE) VWFS finally confirm my order of a GTD Estate as my next company car. I couldn't decide between this and a Octavia vRS (in Meteor Grey) but went with the Golf as the spec was far better for the price. The only option I added was auto main beam and tornado red paint.
Does anyone have one? I appreciate it is a 3 year old model now but I still like the look of them and I'm hoping it will suit me well.
Cheers, Max

I've got a Leon FR ST 184 which is also basically the same car. At the time I bought, it was on offer and hence much cheaper than the Golf or Octavia. Now done 6600 miles in 4 months and have been impressed.
Boot is enormous, almost 600 litres which makes larger cars seem very poorly packaged. Plenty of rear room for two children. Fast enough for country lane overtakes and is comfy on the motorway. Trip computer says I've averaged 49.8mpg since new. A longer journey will easily average high 50s.

I've got the Leon ST 184 as well, when I bought mine there were no Golfs available whereas my car was sitting unregistered in the local dealership.
Echo what the others have said regarding comfort and pace, though over 17k miles I only see 48mpg average, does get well over 50 on a run though. Great cars.

I got mine in October of last year and have covered a little over 20,000 miles in it.
For a company car, I genuinely can't fault it. It drives well for what it is, has a decent turn of speed, pretty grippy, very practical. I'd probably run one as a private car, too, it's that competent.
I also managed to get an 8ft Christmas tree in it last year. Tight, but it went in!
Anything specific, fire away.

I went for Carbon Grey, and have had CarPlay retrofitted, nothing else otherwise.
CarPlay is okay, but probably not worth the £200+ retrofit price.
If I was to order again, I'd be tempted by the DSG to make the adaptive cruise control even more useful. I say that having never driven a car with DSG, so who knows.

I've only seen three or four others on the road. A much rarer sight than the hatchback, and haven't seen a red one. Should look good.
If it was my own, I'd be tempted to have it chipped. There is a place quite close to me that sell and fit the boxes and they run them on their own Octavias'. Reckon they're getting 240bhp out of them.

That is one of the reasons I didn't get the Octavia. You see loads! It would have been Meteor Grey though which I like the look of.
A remap would be tempting, but as a company car on company insurance not wise really! Also, I'm going from a Leon 1.6 110 to 184 so that should be enough.

DSG and ACC is definitely a tasty combination I got mine when I'd just started doing a long motorway commute on the M25/ M4. It makes the drive significantly easier as you don't need to touch the accelerator or brakes at all. Will take the car to a complete stop if necessary. Particularly useful in stop/ start traffic!

Not a GTD estate, but I have a Touran r-line 190hp on order which should be the same engine and similar chassis... looking forward to it more than I probably should look forward to a people carrier (chosen over the Golf as wife prefers higher driving position and 7 seats will be useful for occasional grandparent transportation!)
Sounds like high-40s mpg ought to be achievable... does anyone else have experience of the Touran with that engine? Can't find official performance figures anywhere (including vw's own site)

I've had the GTD Est, did 7500 miles in about 3.5/4 months, mine was DSG, was lucky to see 40mpg out of it, usually mid 30's. It took about 4-5k before it would get close to 40mpg. Feels a bit light at the back round sharp bends but otherwise decent. I spec'd mine with Carbon grey, Pan roof, Dynaudio, and High beam assist. Wouldn't bother with High beam assist if I had to pay for it.
Got a hatch now, much better MPG, late 30's from the off and now regularly in the early 40's now with 3750 miles and 7 weeks old. More planted feel but otherwise not a lot of difference.

YMMV and all that and I'm sure DSG makes a difference but I've averaged around 48mpg in 60k in the hatch. Got a hatch now, much better MPG, late 30's from the off and now regularly in the early 40's now with 3750 miles and 7 weeks old. More planted feel but otherwise not a lot of difference.
