My ML has Intelligent Light System. The dipped beams are set to left hand traffic and to be honest are great on a dark night.
The problem is however, i'm obviously blinding oncoming traffic as I'm continually getting flashes / flicked the bird etc. and it's driving me bonkers.
I've tried switching to right hand traffic but same result. I have tested this against a wall and the lights do move for each side.

Anyone else experience this?
Do my lights need adjusted?

Thanks

I have the same problem with my CLS.

I think that the problem may be more to do with the whiteness of the lights rather than their alignment. The whiteness makes them seem bright and so on main beam to the oncoming driver.

I agree, it is annoying, even dangerous, when the other guys decides he's going to retaliate.

Shame really, but there you go. I've got to say that these lights are absolutely superb otherwise... coupled with Night View I've never known anything remotely like it for piercing the darkness.

I've had the same problem with both of the ML's I've had with the Intelligent lights, I think that they're set too high from the factory.

I asked my dealer to lower them slightly when they were in for a service and they did them both for free. Now no more flashing.

I worried about this with my GL but despite commuting through the countryside lanes, I've not had any negative reactions. My wife has in her E-class though and I reckon you have a point that it could be to do with the colour. Mine are not nearly as white as my wife's.

I've had no adverse reactions at all in the three years with my GL class. Always used ILS in combination with full beam assist, never got flashed.

Got the updated system in my current GLC43 AMG, the version where it actively adapts the beam. Was weird at first when it keeps full beam on but 'draws' a black box on the vehicle in front and oncoming traffic.

I'd say that if you get a lot of people flashing you, you should have them checked out and possibly realigned.

I've got them on my ML350 ( and on a previous E350 Estate) and do occasionally get flashed. I think there are two main issues -firstly they are very bright and high colour temp compared to standard lights. Secondly they have a very sharp cut-off of the dipped bean pattern so while they normally aim just below the approaching car and shouldn't cause a problem, if you go over a bump or accelerate then the beam lifts just a tad and very quickly dazzles the oncoming vehicle -and looks like you are flashing them -hence getting flashed in return. As suggested above best bet is to maybe get them lowered slightly -I'm thinking of getting mine done esp as the centre of the high beam seems to illuminate the trees rather than the road!

They are I believe not permitted under UK type approval but get in if the vehicles is approved elsewhere in Europe. Arguably they are Illegal because the law says you shouldn’t dazzle other traffic which they do. More relevant is they are rude and discourteous but then perhaps the bully light brigade don't care provided they can see where they are going.

First, they can be changed from LH to RH dip via the user menu. Secondly, they don't dazzle if set correctly, same as any headlights.

Thirdly, they work very well, one might say brilliantly.

The lights on my TVR work just fine thank you.

When purchasing a modern Merc I specifically chose one without Bully Lights. I have experience of a current E class with them and they don't respond until after the oncoming car is in view a considerate driver with manual operation will dip far earlier. Unusually the US came to the correct conclusion and disallowed them.

Aside from the dipping issue. In the bully light car you can see fine, the person coming the other way can't see the cyclist, pedestrian, dog whatever.

You do know you can enable/disable that feature as well? Annoying, all this progress and user choice.

One good reason to leave the EU I guess, though this thread is about preventing dazzling rather than having 'bully lights'

Would get lights adjusted by main dealer as suggested above-my ML lights were too high when new fine now and no flashing
I am normally blinded by headlights fitted with after market upgraded bright lights that are not adjusted and used by many people
and while we are moaning what about all the one eyed monsters on the roads these days seems to be getting worse ??
