Put my wife's Gti 35 edition for sale on various websites and have had quite a few replies both by phone and email.

Top and bottom of it , is that folk have trouble reading the advert asking about "extras " that don't exist on the car or I would have mentioned them in the advert .

Has it got sat nav ? No , if it had I'd be advertising it.

Has it got fsh ?, yes , it's on the advert.

Is it one owner ? ,yes it's on the advert

Are you sure it's one owner ? ....etc etc.

And that's before we sat about the price , I just cannot get my head around the offers being made before they have viewed it .

Advertised at £14999 , the lowest offer I've had was £11000 for "cash" , not only that he could pay the same night forgetting that he lived 4 hours away.

We buy any car is looking more attractive by the minute.

Stick with it, I had the same with my E92 330D on Autotrader, but you soon learn which are time-wasters early on, and the genuine potential buyers.

Ended up selling to a guy about 5 miles down the road, and it was a smooth and easy deal. The webuyanycar guide price was about 2.5k lower than I got in the end. Just hang in there!

Last time I ever advertised a car was back in 2005 a mk4 golf r32, now I'm genuinely cautious about anyone coming to my house to view said car but when you have tossers ringing when it's pitch black outside and wants to come over to view one has to be wary, the one chap who rang a couple of times said I'll meet you at the KFC just on the outskirts of Bradford not far from where we live, being cautious I rang a couple of mates to meet me there but stay out of sight well when these prospective buyers turned up in their 10 year old Nissan micra tracksuit bottoms tucked into socks innit bro's got out two of them walked round the corner the other two started looking around the car sensing trouble my two mates walked over and the two lads looking round the car legged it leaving the Nissan micra the police later said it was a stolen "pool car"
I've never advertised a car since always parted them out.

I'd take my chance at home with much less risk , not a chance in hell of me meeting in a car park regardless.

TV repeatedly shows that you should make a "cheeky offer" for the house / car / watch / furniture / whatever and that people (apparently) get a good deal.

Infuriating, but little you can do except roll your eyes and move on.

My old man used WBAC on his 3 year old Scirocco and got a decent deal and was paid there an then. Worth a look.

I sold my Golf R32 via the Evans Halshaw car buying service. I got the price I wanted & it was hassle free. (no attempts to chip me on the on-line price).

Left the car with them & the dosh was in my bank by the time I got home. (Paid a few extra quid for this)

15 grand seems optimistic to me. Dealers have similar (more miles & owners, but more toys) for 1500 less. You're bound to get cheeky callers.

Re-check your sale price. Make sure it's in line with the other cars.
(I haven't checked but looking at the above posts, especially if it's lacking spec EG satnav..)

Join some of the FB VW car groups.
TFSI Tuning Parts and for Sale for example.

I've sold both my last cars from FB in a hassle free and cost effective (free) way.

For a 35 Edition ?

Never seen one that low , but I stand to be corrected.

Not having a go, just an observation smile

ETA And I apologise, I've amended my first post to more miles not fewer miles. I'm a div!

Ha ha , didn't think that all all.

Only thing in my defence is its a manual not the DSG that's on the dragons car .

Point taken though , I've reduced it by £500 to a more realistic £14500

Lovely cars, i guess the average Gti buyer wants the newest model and does not know much about these.
Getting muppets ringing you up with offers seems to be the norm these days.

Also remember that it's a private sale so no finance available which many people use these days

Plus loads going lease

Private sale is hard! (From experience)

Good Luck

A few more morons last night , I've reduced the price to £14k which is the cheapest on AT for that spec and mileage and the lad who promised to turn up didn't, now there's a suprise.

This weekend it remains for sale before going to Wbac on Monday.

Leasing looking a better option by the day.

If there's a Evans Halshaw in your area try them. They will do a WBAC and add £50 plus I found them very fair. No attempt to chip me on the price when I rocked up.

Update.

Sold it to a trader , rang up and got offered a price subject to inspection.

Chap came up a few days later , reasonable inspection with a quick drive round the block by me with him as a passenger, said yes and the funds were transferred into my account 5 minutes later.

I've since seen the car on his website , he'll do alright out of it and good luck to him for buying it at this time of the year.

Next time I'm selling a car that's the route I'll take , no more fannying about with time wasters and chancers.

Last car I sold I went to a trader, as they gave me a decent price (2k more than WBAC offered) with no messing about, and I didn't have to worry about test pilots, theives or people deciding they couldn't afford it/source finance. Have leased ever since!
