Just wondering what sort of goodies VW dealers give you when you pick up a new car? Champagne, auto glym? What can one expect?

A free coffee and a boring 15 minutes of being taken through the controls.

They may make more effort if you're the sort of person who pays list price, takes the GAP insurance and other magic beans, and will be back in 3 years to do it all again.

That's about right (unless it's a "special" model like a Clubsport S, XL1 etc.) - VW is about volume these days and the dealer's margin on an individual unit is very small. A lot of the time there is no profit in the car at all, simply a target to hit.

I got all 3 *and* a towel with a new Mustang.

I have just managed to negotiate all the dealer margin off a new 2017 Model year Q5 along with existing customer loyalty bonus, also managed to get a reduced APR from VWFS so I expect F all on handover to be honest

Just prey to get out within the hour with your sanity intact and the car as described/ordered.

You're not going to get auto-glym when you pick up the car, unless it's been done (either free somehow or you're paying) in which case you should get the valet pack.

We got a Tiguan last year from a nearby dealer but did it through CarWow. Was quite surprised to get the full showroom reveal and a bottle of champagne. We'd also been sent a video of the car when it arrived at the dealership, and got a follow up a couple of days after collection.

All-in-all very good experience. I did use the maximum PCP though. Funnily enough all contact stopped when I withdrew from the PCP a few days after delivery.
