Holy thread resurrection etc.

My lad has decided he wants a circa 2008 A6 (ideally Avant, but beggars/ choosers etc) 3.0Tfsi. There are a few about, obviously getting on a bit now, seem to go very well despite being a bit flabby over the S4 with the same engine.

Anything in particular to look out for when buying? They all seem to have done over 100k, which is fine, and being fairly heavy I'm assuming suspension, brakes etc all fairly consumable.

There is one on AT privately claiming an MRC map five years ago, mot history suggests it has a "leaking manifold", which I am guessing is oil not some massive hole in it, but we may well see this week (!)

Any pearls of wisdom appreciated!

All 3.0 TFSI will suffer coolant leaks from area under the supercharger at some point. They tend to be annoying rather than catastrophic because there's a good bit of labour pulling charger and bits off for access.

The exhaust leak will be the flexis on the downpipes, it always is. Expensive to replace but a good exhaust man will weld in new sections cheaply.

C6 A6s are generally very tough old things and well regarded among Audi nerds. With good maintenance they will do lunar miles and parts availability is very good.

Strong car, strong engine and box.

Thanks,

Not sure if he can insure the modded one, but with ULEZ compliance they seem a better bet than a derv even in standard form.

The search for one continues!
