Hi all , advice please . Have 6 yr old V10 Spyder always been serviced within network . However given the price they are wanting to charge for this service and that it is 6 years old now , does anyone know can they recommend anyone in the Surrey area
SJB Autotech in Basingstoke have popped up and I recall a place in Chessington but cannot remember the name . Plus anyone else?
Thanks in advance

If you can travel to Bedford, AKS Tuning are very good.

Pretty sure there's also an VAS Motion nearby.

RE Performance in Swindon is widely regarded as the best indy in the UK, and Ricky is a real nice guy too.

This slightly older thread has some suggestions http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=124...

AMD Technik in Woking might have more experience with the higher performance models, I've not used htem so can't comment.

Audi VW Specialists in leatherhead http://www.audivwspecialistleatherhead.co.uk/ were very helpful in diagnosing & fixing a minor issue (which felt like a major problem) in my S6

For me personally I think due to the fact it has had full dealer service its worth keeping for resale purposes. I know you may well get a better service from a private specialist, but a lot of people would still be happier buying a car with a no expense spared history.

I agree and when I bought my 2007 R8 V8 four years ago I only considered R8's that had FASH.

Since then I have only had services with Audi and wouldn't consider anywhere else.

It wouldn't surprise me if the majority of R8 buyers look for FASH on a car like this.

What's the price differential between an indy and a main dealer? You might be surprised about their willingness to price match.

As said above you could quite easily stand to lose more in depreciation from having a non full Audi service history than you would gain in the short term. At this level - outside of classics - I firmly believe buyers have low tolerance for non-dealer servicing.

me too, when buying i was only interested in FASH, altho at a push if RE Performance had done one it wouldnt worry me. i was then thinking about the next service due, and who to use, having visited my local Main dealer they had loads of R8 around the place for service and new, so that re-assured me a little.

Have to say Ricky from RE Performance was EXTREMELY helpful even though I wasn't going to be able to use his inspection services.

Logistics meant that he wasn't available for a few weeks to do the inspection but he gave tons of invaluable advice over the phone. The stuff that reputations are built on!

Thanks Ricky!

Given the poor levels of service that some main dealers provide, I would consider a service history by someone with Ricky's reputation as a bonus.

Worth pointing out that to work on R8 for a dealer. You have to have completed 4 days of training at Audi UK in MK

It's the ONLY car in the range that requires this. In theory the better Techs go on this course so it's not going to be done by an apprentice or someone new to the brand.

They were talking of it being QT or MT level techs only.

Audi have 4 levels
Apprentice
Service
Qualified
Master

Hi I went with dealer in the end got a fixed price incl pollen filter and oil for £1045 apparently a special offer!
TBF I did check with another Audi dealership and 2 indies and it was cheaper that dealer and only £200 more than indie half of which I'd have spent on petrol getting there !

That seems quite steep to me.

I had an inspection service done in October at Bedford Audi and they found an oil leak on the pas pump which was repaired with new seals and that all came in at £839. Only thing I can see different is I don't think I had the pollen filter changed.

That is good to know and somewhat comforting, however, I do question the value of a FASH on vehicles that are say 5+ years old.

Anyone know the service interval for the oe air filters on an R8?
Mine has had 3 or 4 services at Audi (only done 12k miles since 2009) but it looks like they've never been changed. I've just swapped them myself as a precaution. In fairness the bills don't show any charges for replacing them so I assume they are long life items. Old vs new!

It's between 8-10 litres depending on what engine. A lot of the cost of that is the Pollen Filter change. Over an hour in fact! Since it's buried up behind the dash, its actually the same as the A6 (2 part) item. They are a pain, but with a bit of practice can get it down in time laugh

It's IIRC a good 2-3 hours for the service, partly cause its dry sumped so there's quite few drain points and then getting the level right involves having the car at operating temp. An partly because theres a good few undertray screws.

Remember of course the omnipresent "R8-Tax" just like we have M Power Tax or AMG tax. A trim part for a special car can be twice the price of the exact same part for a 2 litre TDI

FYI

And the new mk2 R8 is even worse for the Pollen filter. Since the subwoofer is fitted backwards (and is wired in reverse as a result) But you have to remove the wipers, then the scuttle trim then unbolt the subwoofer to get it out so you can access anything!

Fitting a Cobratrak takes bloody ages! biggrin

EDIT TO ADD.

Just used a V10 RTronic reg from the Classifieds into Audis fixed price thing.

Oil and Pollen for £1K? Seems a bit steep. Did they not change Air filters? Spark plugs?
