Audi A3 Saloon - Issues
Discussion
Had/still have Audi's for over 25 years, albeit, they've always been puchased with at least 50k miles. Still have a UR & a B5 RS4.
So, after much deliberation and a new job which involves many miles, I decided to get something new, reliable, under warranty etc etc.
Got a A3 Saloon 2.0 Tdi quattro 183. It's now just turned 5.5k miles and is going back to the dealer on Monday morning:-
The EML came on Tuesday (no noticable difference in engine performance)
The outside temp reading is way off (saying it's 30 degrees all the time)
There is a 'rattle' coming from behind the headlight switch, but only when cold!
So, I'm a bit perplexed in particular at the EML light coming on with such low miles!
I like the car and impressed with the tech in it in particular, but is it therefore becoming pretty apt to assume they (Audi/VAG) are now starting to just build these perceived 'quality' products to a 'price'?
Will find out the issue on Monday no doubt!
Edited to add - the official MPG is supposed to be a combined 57 mpg - the best I've achieved driving lightly is 48 on the DIS. I was told by the dealer this was normal when the engine is new but after nearly 6k miles it's not really improving. Another gripe!

Fuel economy seems about right; no way those things will do ~60 MPG. Take 20% off whatever the silly EU figures say.
EML - not uncommon for a new car to have some teething issues and if everything is running right it's probably a minor sensor giving a sporadic reading or similar. Take the loan car, drink the free coffee, and let Audi pay for it.
I have a '63 S3 that has a very intermittent rattle from the same area. It'll do it for a day then disappear for a fortnight. A good old fashioned whack on top of the dash does shut it up in my case. Again, it's not uncommon on a new car for little things like that to need fettling.

There was a fault code for the MAF which apparently where the outside temp reading gets it's info from. However, the say it's 'inconclusive'!! They cleared the fault code, the light has gone out (for now) and they want the car back for further examination. The outside temp reading is still wrong, so why wouldn't they just change the MAF, seems pretty straight forward to me.
