Ah, right. Thought all VAG units were the same.
Hang on a minute. So you were trying to tell me that the OPs gearbox would cost 10k to fix if it broke, and now it turns out you have not got a fking clue what you are talking about?
Calm down dear, people will think you're a drama queen.

Maybe check a little deeper, it is nothing like the same gearbox, as said the vw is transverse while the Audi is longitudinal.

I have a 2015 A3 with this box. I find it very smooth and a real joy to drive, especially in traffic.

I rarely, if at all use the paddles if I'm honest and generally drive in 'D' and occasionally 'S'. This is probably because I have a torquey diesel, so don't need to. Am i alone?

Source listed both cars. Are you saying that's wrong or that might be wrong? Would like to know because this has come up with acquaintances.

Im not fully up to date with which cars use exactly which box but, if my memory is right i think the Vw uses the either the 6speed dq250 or the 7speed dq500 or maybe even the 7speed dq380 smile and the audi would be using the 7 speed dl501.

In the most basic terms, they are both using a 'DSG' gearbox, however the mechanical make up of the unit is completely different for those vehicles designed around a transverse engine with the gearbox bolted on the side, with potentially Haldex 4x4 to the back, and those with a longitudinal engine like the A4/5/6/8 which are predominantly torsen 4x4
