Golf MK IV gearbox in a MK V?

My brother has got an early Mk 5 (2004) Golf 1.9 Tdi with a knackered fifth gear. He has been offered a gearbox from a Mk IV Golf, presumably a Tdi. Does anyone know if it'll fit?

Best bet is to dig out the 3-letter code for the gearbox and match it that way. It's on the sticker in the boot or handbook.
