Evening,

So, just sat and watched my, now no longer mine, e60 BMW Individual 535d drive off with its new owner. Sold for £8k It had done 72,000 miles and was starting to show signs of old age and needing a bit of money spending on it - brake discs and pads, injectors, rocker gasket and had an intermittent gearbox issue. With all that said I've got some serious sellers remorse and wish I'd kept it.

This is made worse by it going to a family member that I see daily so it'll be in my view all the time (he is fully aware of faults and is over the moon with the sale - he's always loved the car since I bought it).

I've replaced it with an Mx-5 Mk2.5 - Executive, fast, lovely car to a unrefined go-kart.

How do move on from this divorce?! Anyone else been in this situation?

A family member too; never sell a car to either a friend or a family member.

Yep!! I still am. This time last year I sold my SLK 55 AMG. Thought I was bored of it but when it sold and I watched it drive off with the awesome V8 loveliness I regretted it straight away. A year on I still wish I had kept it. Unfortunately I can't replace it at the moment due to setting up my own business but I will one day.

Just read that back and realised how it came across.

All consumables / easy fixes. As said he is fully aware of all issues as he often borrowed the car when I had it.

Hopefully he'll return the favour and you'll get to borrow it now wink

The day I sold my e39 M5 I watched it drive up the road and then went straight to the pub to drown my sorrows, I really didn't want to sell it but I couldn't justify spending the fortune that I was spending running it. I was parked up earlier opposite a petrol station having a bit of lunch and watched a guy filling one up (not surprisingly!), to say I was a bit jealous is putting it mildly!

Partly my reasoning for thinking about selling mine.

It wasn't exactly a cheap car to run especially knowing it's current requirements.
I rarely actually used it as I have a van and wife's car so the battery would get weak if not used for 3weeks or so.
With the new 5 series coming out it'll be 2 models behind and prices will start to take a hit.

I loved just about all my old cars and wish I could have them again, ones that stick out are MX3 V6, Sirion Rally 2, Legacy and even a Perodua Kelisa

I bought my dream car in the exact spec I wanted and ran it for 4 years. I spent an absolute fortune on it.

After adding 40k miles and driving it daily It was still immaculate.

I dropped it off at the guys house who bought it with my brother in law.

I took one last glance at it and seriously regretted it. But I needed the money for an investment.

I made £4k on the car, Wierd I know. But I truly loved it. I promised I would never sell it.

Silver Grey with Imola Red interior and a manual.

It wanted for nothing... Thanks for ruining my mood OP lol.

Wasn't she beautiful?

The guy I sold it to got an amazing deal IMHO. Not many like this around.

I'll never forget my 3 year olds sad little face when I told him Daddy's 'fast' car had gone.

That M3 is lush.

I've regretted selling both of my previous MR2 turbos. So I had to slap myself recently when I almost sold my current one. Told him I changed my mind 4 days before he was going to hand over the cash.

Felt pretty good since.

Still miss my first one though, fishnet recaros, LSD, did all the work to it myself. Good memories and a good car.

Yup. I totally understand and sympathise. Personal circumstances dictated I wave off my Porsche 944 S2 a few years ago. A very sad day... even more so when I see how they've gained in value since!

My lovely E39 M5, sold nearly a decade ago now. Still regret it and miss it. More so having just read the twin supercharged M5 thread. Even then I still didn't buy the new Clio V6 MkII that I could have done to ease the pain. The newer M cars do nothing for me.

ETA, I had a 58 plate E60 535D, with HUD, etc.. great car, electronics too annoying and it had to go. Did replace that with a C6 RS6 however...

Yep, horrible feeling. Had it twice, Lexus IS-F and R8 V10. Still gutted at the loss of both, years later. I'd have them both back in a heartbeat if circumstances would allow it.

A few.

Wife's XC90, great family car but £500 tax and 28 mpg was getting to me so traded it in for an Avensis diesel estate!

My MK2 GTI 2 owners FDSH totally standard 😩, sold it because of impending commute, see below

E36 318is commuted in this for 2 years doing 120 miles per day!
Never let me down. Needed some money spending on it but instead of giving it some much needed TLC sold it too cheap and bought a 3 year old S40 1.6D 😏

I had to sell my R500 last month due to needing the money elsewhere, as the days get warmer I'll be regretting it more and more!
