Hi all. I am new to this forum & not completely sure how to use it as yet. 8' just wondering if anybody can point me in the right direction with this misfire.

Basically bought an Audi A4 2.0tdi (BRE) 55reg around a month ago. 4 days into ownership heading up a slip round & boom my timing belt gives way.

Got the car back & stripped it apart inspected the cylinder head & quite a few valves were damaged. I worked out it was cheaper to buy a used head & have that skimmed, so I did.

Fitted the new head with nice fresh gasket, new head bolts & everything as t should be. Built everything back up & started on the last job of timing belt. I used a full kit with new guides & tensioner & also fitted a water pump whilst I was there.

All timed up now so I cranked it over possibly 7-8 times to be double sure all was okay & everything lined back up. Went to fire the car up & struggled to start as expected with everything being disconnected for a while etc. Once I got the car going she is running really lumpy, shaking visibly & when sat inside it's quite clearly misfiring. Chuffing out a fair bit of smoke (blue) which I know is unburnt fuel.

When doing the head swap I used my injectors from my old head & the injector loom just to be clear to everyone that they are not ones I haven't used before.

Can anybody please point me in the direction as to what this is because I'm pulling my hair out now & I don't want to hand it over to a garage & then be stung with huge bills for diagnosing the issue.

Any help greatly received!

Jordan.

Unburnt fuel is white on a diesel, blue will be oil.

Thanks for your reply. Any idea what can be causing the smoke & misfire? Could it be an incorrectly seated injector seal? Or not injector not seated properly?

Sounds plausible. How did you seat the injectors. I find using a rubber hammer to be a good idea. They should go down until they click.

Also Did you use new stretch bolts for the injectors (its a toruw plus an angle) and is the rocker (5 bolts) bolted down EVENLY and to the right torque (30NM IIRC but check)

Thanks for your advice. I didn't use anything to tap the injectors home I just pushed them down as far as possible with my hand & then tightened them down the the correct torques. Also I didn't use new stretch bolts for the injectors as somebody told me that the ones I had would be fine to re-use.

As for the rocker balancer shaft that is tightened down the the specified 30nm & also been tightened in the correct pattern from front to back .

Somebody has told me after I have double checked my injectors are all seated properly to check that they are adjusted properly. By unscrewing the lock nut adjusting the Allen key screw then re locking with the nut.
