When I test drove the coupe last month, the exhaust noise was, to me, a little disappointing even when in dynamic mode. I didn't get the chance to drive it with the windows down, but the insulation and soundproofing in the car I think very much dulled the soundtrack. Still looking forward to getting mine just have this niggle in the back of my mind that didn't sound as beefy as I was hoping.

I know it's the idea of switchable modes but I would appreciate it if it's a nice sounding note without being too loud. My Golf does my head in a bit nowadays when in race mode (soundaktor still active) so I often run in eco just to get rid of the noise in day to day use. A subtle but nice sound would suit me

To me the exhaust note in dynamic is perfect, any louder and it be annoying after a while. If you want 'loud' you don't want an S5 but need an RS instead.

To me if it isn't loud enough when you first get in it but still sounds good and is still audible then it is probably the right volume

It does get slightly louder when warmed up properly. When you drive around in dynamic mode the exhaust note does turn heads, and enough to wake up the neighbours in the morning. ranting

Haha I am going to have to leave it in non dynamic overnight then or I'll be getting told off!

Can anyone confirm whether the S5 exhaust is active or passive (i.e. is the noise artificially augmented or not?)

I currently have a Kufatec Sound-Booster pro active unit fitted to my A7 Bitdi, which plugs into the loom in the boot - and wondered whether this would work on the S5, or whether I need to eBay it along with the Tdi tuning box..?

I have seen differing things written about it. I have seen some reviews referring to "fake engine noise" and others saying there isn't any false engine noise. So god knows! I suspect there isn't any given that it's not very loud inside the car.

Not artificial. Flaps open in dynamic mode to give the more aggressive sound. IMHO you really don't need anything else as it's not a TDI which I know can sound dull.

Cheers guys, will look get it listed when the car arrives (and probably never bother, along with all the other tuning boxes and electronic tat that I have collected over the years and never got rid of.. smile )

Had the car just over a week now but not driven it an awful lot, and the last two days its been at the detailers to have the ceramic coating applied. The sound isn't loud even in dynamic mode but what is there does sound quite nice and a little throaty. Even starting it up in dynamic isn't as loud as our Mini JCW in normal mode so its a little disappointing. I don't know what the B8 S4/S5 V6 sounded like but I had a B6 and B7 V8 S4 which were a bit louder, well the B6 a lot louder with sports cats. If it could be tweaked just a little without messing around with the exhaust then I'd be interested, something like you used to be able to do with the vacuum pipes on some cars. For now I have set the individual mode to auto for the gearbox, comfort for the steering and dynamic for the exhaust.

In terms of driver comfort and poise etc nothing to do with speed, it is a lot more comfortable and better steering and damping than a previous gen A5 BE that we had. Averaging over 25mpg so far over 200 miles so not bad but that is mainly 30 and 40 mph limit rural roads with a couple of blasts where road and traffic permitted.

These pics were taken by Courtney from The Detail King with some before after pics bearing in mind the before pics are of the car that has only been washed by the dealer and not prepped by them as requested by Courtney. I had to go a whole week after collecting the car without washing or touching it as Courtney could do it before then. Its had 4 layers of C.Quartz Finest on the paintwork and he's also ceramic coated the wheels and treated the leather and engine bay.

Wow, looks loads better. What sort of money did that cost to get done then (if you don't mind me asking)?

I only collected it from him last night and drive home very steady as the roads were dreadful and didn't want to get it dirty smile and not had a really good look yet but what I could see is stunning and a lot better than new.

Costs in the region of £400 - £500 depending what you want doing.

Have a look at some of his work https://www.facebook.com/TheDetailKing1/?pnref=sto...
