Hi, wondering if I can ask some advice. I have a deposit down on an R8 gen 2 and have asked the dealer to change the wheels from the 19.5" 5 spoke to the 20" wheels. He is looking at it, but sounded very doubtful. I would have thought this would be possible? Any advice?

Shouldn't have put the deposit down until it was in writing they'd do it. Even at dealer rates it's probably £2k in parts which they will need to factor in.

TBH the car rides better on the smaller wheels in the UK. But I appreciate the desire for bigger wheels for looks. Not that either wheel is up there as a design classic.

As Rich says (although 2k is very conservative) that's a massive chunk of cash for the dealer to swallow and they're not going to have a spare set of the 20s lying around.

I also would stick on the 19s.

Fully understand. The cost quoted by Audi to take off 19 and put on 20 was over £10K... for a £1,350 option. Anyway, I have asked for a reasonable price increase estimate

He option though is to upgrade. Say for example a 19 inch wheel and tyre package is 5k (but built into the price of the car) then the 1350 would be to fit the bigger wheels at the factory. For a dealer to do it they will have to buy the wheels and tyres at the dealer rates (often more than Audi themselves buy them from their manufacturer/supplier) and then fit them.

Also they have no use for your 19s so would hand them to you to deal with

You would be better off taking delivery of the car on the OE 19's and then if you still want some 20's, purchasing some aftermarket ones. That way you will have a much wider choice of wheel and also probably save a fortune. You can then either sell the 19's on ebay or put winter tyres on them if its going to be a daily.

This ^^^^^^

Or go onto an R8 forum and find someone with 20"s that wants to downgrade to make everything more compliant.

Yup this is the best way.

Dealer will want £5-7k for new wheels and tyres at the very least.
