Took my little boy out for a blast in my new monaro vxr and all was well, following weekend decided to extract it from the garage for a drive down the coast, got chatting to the neighbour whilst it sat idling and noticed a red stream trotting down my drive and a slowly increasing whine....popped the bonnet to see one of the lower pas pipes having a slash all over the fan. Anyway got 2 new pipes from monkfish, fitted and filled up the fluid.... all seemed ok until it's on full lock when it makes the same noise it did when empty of fluid, took it for a spin and once warmed up I get that noise on even slight turning plus it judders on sharper turns while on the move, no fluid is being lost anymore so would I be right in thinking the pump is damaged from losing its juice?

Did you drive the car at all after you noticed the PAS fluid leak?

I drove my car about 1 mile before I could safely stop after the PAS cooler let go in spectacular fashion and dumped all the fluid at once.

It took a lot of steering wheel twirling from lock to lock after I changed the cooler with the PAS bottle cap off for all the air to escape, and the whine to stop. This happened about 2 years ago and no steering issues since, so the pump seems quite hardy.

No it was literally a metre from the garage, I had to use steering to get it back in as it's tight and on a slope. It seemed fine when cold after bleeding apart from when it got to full lock on both right and left but once I'd driven a few miles and the fluid was up to temp it groaned on even the slightest of turns and started to judder, I'll try another attempt at bleeding tonight but suspect it may have had it as last owner lost the oil cooler not long back so I might have aggravated any damage done then

I had the same issue, probably air in the system.

Did you follow the procedure after replacing the PAS pipes, I'm doing mine this weekend.

Hers what I have.

Tried that bleeding method and while it has improved slightly it still Judders a bit and whines/groans and slight turns so I've ordered a new pump to be safe...oh well
