I'm thinking of buying an Audi Q3 (2019/2020) and am looking at the 40 tfsi and 45 tfsi petrol engine options with DSG gearbox - are there any physical differences between those engines or are they just mapped differently, in which case can the 40 tfsi be re-mapped to give the same performance as the 45 tfsi?

Are there any differences in the DSG gearbox maps for those two engines?

The 40TFSI is a "Miller Cycle" (I Think) engine which has a different firing order/setup for low down torque and economy.

The 45TFSI is basically the 245bhp Golf GTI engine.

They are both EA888 2.0 engines but I think there is quite alot of differences between them.

However the 190bhp engine does remap to 245ish bhp anyway.

I've got a 23 reg.TT with the 197bhp engine and agree with Stephen's comments that it's a very torquey and economical engine. Also the DSG gearbox is set-up well for this engine, mine is set to efficiency mode and manages 30mpg around the town and over 40mpg on a run. Its gear change up points are perfect for my local use and it even changes down to slow the car on the overrun. The Auto stop/start works even when the engine is cold.
It can easily spins the front wheels when its damp so no lack of acceleration off the line.
I asked my dealer what the 45 was like and they said it wasn't that much different in everyday use and it is quite a bit more expensive as it has an extra intercooler like the GTi engine on the Golf.
Audi didn't say anything about the Miller cycle, sure they dont know anything about that.
I'd definitely go for the 40TFsi engine version.
