Hi all

I'm looking at a 2017 S6 Avant with circa 70k miles. Full audi service history.

I'm not too informed on this, but I believe there are reliability issues regarding the engines/turbos?

Should I be concerned by this? How common is it? Possible repair costs?

An extended warranty is circa £125 p/m with Warranty Wise.

Thanks

There was a known issue with the oil filters on the turbos getting clogged, which could result in a costly turbo failure. For a while I combatted this by changing oil every 9 or 10 months (my S6 was a daily). But a year or so ago Audi recognised the problem and did a recall on all v8 twin turbo engines from this period. So I would ask the seller if they have records of the car being sorted by Audi.
Otherwise the engine / turbo set up is nigh-on bulletproof as far as I'm aware.

Engine is strong, gearbox reasonably so. Needs oil every 40k.

These things eat brake discs and they're expensive (400mm fronts) with aftermarket stuff being nearly as pricey as Audi. They're also quite prone to warping.

Good cars, though. Very old-school feel in that they're properly quick but very refined and subtle.

Thank you. Seller has confirmed recall work has been carried out by Audi.

There have been several iterations of the oil filter in the turbo oil feeds to stop the clogging up that causes the turbo killing oil starvation. I recall the filter is buried in the engine so getting to it isn't quick or cheap, I believe there is mod kit from the US that makes the filter accessible for easy cleaning.

These are big old barges so driving dynamics are blunt so makes a good cruiser rather than b-road weapon.
