Buying a B7 Special Edition this week....
Discussion
I have placed a deposit on an 06 plate Audi A4 2.0T Quattro S-Line Special Edition in Black and hope to take deliverly either this week or next.
Are there any other owners on here? what are your views etc?
I understand the 'SE' has 220hp has anyone had any experience in chipping the 'SE' rather than the regular 2.0T with 200hp? I can only find chips for the standard 2.0T model.
Other than that I am looking to retro-fit the Audi MMI sat nav system, 'black-out' front grill and black window trims rather than chrome ones and tinting the windows for the 'stealth' look.
Im also thinking about buying some 19" RS4 Replica alloys and have them finised in Titanium... but am worried about rep' alloys being heavy and therefore effecting the handling too much. can anyone point me in the right direction for some good replicas?
Would be nice to hear from other owners.
Opinions / Advice.
Thanks
Lee.

Lovely cars! We had in stock until recently a similar car that got traded to a dealer in your area funnily enough.
They're not noticably more punchy than the 200PS car, when mapped they go to the same figures as the standard car (roughly 265 and 300) as all Audi have done is give the ECU a gentle kick up the backside.
Have you done much research on retrofitting MMI? I was lead to believe it was quite involved.

i've only looked into it briefly so far. I've found the units for sale on ebay for around £600. I'd also allow about £1000 for fitting it if ariels have to be installed etc. While i remember, one thing i dont like is the speed sensitive steering... Is there a simple way of switching this off? Or am i stuck with it?

be careful on the Sat Nav and make sure you get the proper one, it is quite involved, best place to ask will be rs246.com - there is a bloke who does it.
Personally i would get a pioneer Avid system, its a touchscreen and much better than the OEM audi unit and is simpler to fit.
Regarding the wheels, i have seen some special editions wearing RS4 replica rims, i would check with the dealer on sizes however, the RS4 has blistered arches and im sure the wheels are much wider than standard A4 so you might need a certain width, i would certainly check. Again for the titanium wheels check on rs246.com - there is someone who has details on there of a company who can spray your wheels to the OEM titanium colour.
Can't help you on the chipping front, ive got a RS4, but my best mate is looking at getting a s line special edition like yours.

I have an A4 DTM which has the 220bhp engine in it (Audi used the DTM to 'promote' the SE engine)
I took my car to Kim Collins at qst in Sussex and got Kim to do the "245bhp" remap http://www.qstuning.com/products.jsp?page=products...
Picked the car up that evening (you can wait, takes about 2 hours) and Kim handed me the post RR graph which showed my 245bhp had actually turned out to be 259 bhp (and 348lbs torque) http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...
Goes like shit off a shovel now
They aint the cheapest for sure, but the result was almost worth every penny. Couldnt bring myself to get the Miltek zorst as it was a an extra £630 (plus VAT) for only an extra 5bhp, but I did do a deal for the future if I wanted to go for their stage 3 tune incl. Miltek zorst, downpipe and cat.
qst also remapped my previous 1.8T Quattro Sport which, again, I was very happy with

Just watch out for those weak gearboxes if you go Cerb hunting
Its ok ill use the Sagaris for Cerb hunting... if I decide to keep her that is...I so shouldn't make that joke with Fubes' Cerb in for a rebuild should I???
Rochester TVR - I have an A4 Avant qtro 2.0t special edition and also took it to QST for Kim Collins to play with. I went the whole hog and had the Miltek exhaust fitted and the full remap - 272bhp and 400nm of twist is the net result, which has proved to be totally reliable, without even a hiccup in 15000 miles.
It's an expensive conversion but is totally top-notch and is worth the money IMHO - even my Audi dealer (Tonbridge) is happy with it.... I now have S4 performance, but in a better handling car (engine weighs 50kg less than the V8 lump) and returning 30mpg....!!! Go for it... it's sooo worth it.

Thanks for the advice, what would you say the performance figures are on yours now? Im due to pick it up this thursday...
Do you know if the Speed sensitive steering can be turned off?
Not sure what the performance figures are - I'd guess at 6 secs 0-60, maybe a little less, but if you had FWD and not Qtro, then I think you'd struggle to beat 6 secs - getting the power down would be interesting in a FWD!!!... Where you really feel it is in overtaking - the car is very fast, picks up instantly with none of the lag that my Impreza STi had... Top speed will be around 160, as this would be redline in 6th gear I think. I havn't had it that high yet, but I can tell you the car keeps pulling hard past 130...(on the continent of course)
The Miltek is a brilliant system, but you need the complete system incl the 100 cell sports-cat to get everything out of the remap (as I have) - when it's all done the car is checked on the Dyno and you get a printout of your power chart, just to prove where your money has gone!!.... As I say, it's a brilliant conversion, really well done and it just transforms the character of the car!
