I add to the positive comments above. I have a 2009 S5 V8. It's been rock solid GT car! It's not a sports car like a 911 however it's a comfy car that carried 2+2! I have two car seats in the back and everyone is comfortable on a long journey!

Friends of mine who have owned BMW's have moaned about the number of issues they have experienced. I know it's a general point and Audi have issues too but I feel lucky to have such a solid car. It's my second Audi and in 8 years of ownership of Audi I have only had 2 issues. My TT split it's CV joint and my S5 had a parking sensor knocked out by a powerful jet washer. The latter isnt really an Audi fault!

I think I will stick to the Audi brand or do a Porsche. I quite like he M6 however I am concerned by the issues BMW constantly have. Maybe someone could correct me on the BMW and rest my nerves on the brand.

Hey Lostprophet, watch out for CUPRAMAX (AKA Batman) the thread resurrection warden!

A relative had an M6 and loved it. The only issues I can remember is that it was horrendous on fuel and insurance. He then bought an M3!

yes, forget that guy!

Indeed, sometimes you're lucky. I think the M6's are generally quite solid. I honestly dont know anything about BMW!

I am also considering the M6! It's either going to be a Rs6, 911 or the M6.

Well if I had that amount of cash to spend, I would personally go for the 911 from your options! The M6 depreciates at 50% after 3 years....ouch! The RS6 is great though.....tough choice, but a nice one to have.

yep the M6 is at 50pc but if you look at the absolute numbers the Porsche loses the most p.a. as the entry level is higher. A 2015 M6 can be bought for 50k. The RS6 is around 60k and a 2013 911 4S is 70-75k.

Yep I am leaning towards the 911 4S. I need to take my kids to the showroom to see how much space they have in the back. If that works then I am in I think.

I hope you have small kids!...very tight in the rear. For resale with the others in mind, the 4S is a good option. All services need to be by an approved Porsche dealer, on time (every 20k), and bang up to date. This is almost a pre requisite with most serious buyers. Oil leaks are a common problem to look out for. Good luck, let me know what you come up with.

The rear space is a concern. I have a 3 and 7 year old. I think even then it might be too tight with boosters and car seats in!

So frustrating!

Yes it is! I wanted the S5 coupe which only seats 4, so had to settle for the sport back instead as have 3 kids plus wife to cart around.

Can you spec the Sportback S5 with 5 seats now? Mine only has 4 as 5 were not available at the time(its a 2011).

Yes, sportback has 5 as standard now. The coupe has no option for 5 (that I know of).

The coupe is perfect for a 2 adult and 2 children situation! It works brill!

I am not sure about the new S5. Looks a bit soft from the front!

Yes, sort of understand that and I do prefer the older style, but the newer style has since grown on me. The bonnet is much better though IMO.

Also, the difference from the front & sides between an A5 & S5 is hard to spot if you want people to know you have an S5. It does not worry me though as I prefer the 'discrete' look. Although cars like the Focus RS & Civic R are a blast to drive and look aggressive, I'd hate to be seen owning one with all those bolt on wings and stuff.

The new front of the A5/S5 looks plain wrong to me. The back looks too plain too. Each to their own.

I prefer the old S5. It looked special enough with it's alloys, badges and chrome bits and bobs.

I think I am done with the Audi brand until their next cycle of cars. Also their customer service levels are terrible. I wouldnt want to deal with them when brakes squeal or alloys crack! Poor RS6 owners.

The new front does grow on you. I agree, the biggest let down is the CS, its bad enough to put you off buying one.
