Mate in the office, his Polo broke down the other night and it was recovered by Ontime. Further comments written on the recovery sheet are:
"Possible throttle control unit".

Fault given: non start

It is a P Reg polo 1.4.

What is a throttle control unit, or am i being thick?

Cheers

Its the throttle body (butterfly valve) controlled by your right foot?

try cleaning it out with carb cleaner first as new ones are over 250 brand new

Cheers Daz, figured out it was the Throttle body after the muppet gave me the correct info.

called a local parts place, new and used £25 + Vat

Is there any resetting that would need doing or just unbolt old one and put on the new?

there are some basic settings that "should" be carried out using vw diag equipment/vag-com when fitting a new one, but you can just bolt the new one on and it will learn its settings, but ideally it should be done properly

I found one at £25+vat and a specialist german car (VW) garage to fit it for £40.

Job done
