In July I bought a 2004 Audi A4 TDI with FASH and 32k on the clock. When I bought it the trader
advised in writing that the next service would be due "January 2010/48000 miles". This long interval to next service was particularly attractive to me when deciding to buy. Since getting the car I've done 4k miles.

In the last few weeks a message has appeared on the dash display indictaing that a servie is due.
At present it states 500 miles/414 days.

I'm confused by this (I'm easily confused). 414 days will take me through to January 2010 which corresponds with the written statement given to me however the milage remaining (500miles) to the service however will take me way short of the 48,000 mile mark.

So, can anyone advise when the service is actually due, would it be Jan 2010 or the end of next week when I've done 500 more miles?

Thanks

The computer in the car may not have been reset and it may have been sitting at a dealers for a period of time befor eyou bought it.

I'd check the service history as to what was done and when and go from there - contact the servicing dealer if necessary.

Is the Audi like the BMW which takes account of the way tyou drive it, type of journeys etc? Lots of short trips = more frequent servicing in miles terms.

Yes. Variable service is based on mileage done so higher mileage=longer service intervals. My car presently says something like 650days till next service but in fact is due in around three/4 months.

To put it simply, it's whichever of the two comes first. So I guess in your case 500 miles.

It's a bit of a bks really! I think I might revert to standard intervals after the next service. I don't like the uncertainty of having a computer deciding when my wallet gets emptied frown

Depends what driving you do. Variable is best for long distance trips and high mileage. Low mileage suits fixed intervals. Your manual will tell you what button to press to get the dash to tell you how long till your next variable service (mine's 4300 miles).
