Looking at the B7 RS4 prices, they are quickly coming into terrority I can afford. My question is: Are deep pockets needed for these cars?
I know the mpg can be very low if thrashed and some problems will be very expensive but I'm coming from Alfa terrority which has never been cheap! I'm currently running a gta which is plenty fast and has been reliable but I would estimate my yearly spend on maintenance for this and previous Alfas (I've had a lot of them) is between £750-£1000 per year with the occassional year going to double that amount. Would a well maintained RS4 be that much more to service?
As for fuel economy, I get average 20mpg so probably not far off the rs4. Tax would be the same and lets say another 30% extra for insurance.
I've also got a regular 06 a4 estate and its been absolutely A1 in terms of build quality and reliability.
It would seem to me that my running costs (barring any major issues) wouldnt be that much higher if I owned and RS4 rather than an Alfa GTA. If I get one lets say with the 40k service out of the way, should I (in theory) have hassle free motoring for a couple of years? I do about 10k per year. Depreciation of course is another story but lets ignore that for the moment. I've been ignoring depreciation throughout my Alfa years smile

There's a RS model website called something like www.rs246.com (I think) which may help you out.

Personally if you do get one, don't take it near an audi dealer for general servicing (but i guess you'll know that already from your other car).
