Hi folks, don't normally venture into this section but here goes.

After the responses to a thread I posted (15k workhorse in GG) up I'm interested in finding out a bit more about Audi RS6 Avants.

I've no experience of these cars really, and as this is a spur of the moment thread apologies for the lack of research.

Anywhoo, what's the general concensus on these in terms of reliability and running costs?
From what I gather there's some problems with suspension, which looking at the classifieds indicates is usually replaced with coilovers? Also guessing they're fairly heavy on brakes?
What are they like for servicing, guessing a good indie will be ok to use?

Any tips on what to look out for, common problems, things worth asking the seller on first contacting them etc would be much appreciated, as aside from the headline grabbing figures I don't have a clue about them in all honesty hehe

Cheers,
Stu smile

Evening Stu,
I ran an RS6 Avant for 6 months/8,000 miles and loved every minute. It only went as my weekly mileage was resulting in me stopping at my Local garage for 85 quid's worth of optimax every 4 days! (and that was before petrol prices went crazy!)Nothing went wrong with it but to be fair I bought from a main dealer and had the full warranty so couldn't comment on servcing. However, without wishing to state the bleedin' obvious, this is a big heavy car with monster performance so consumables will not be cheap. I clipped a kerb and pinched the sidewall of the Conti-sport-contact and the cost of the replacement made me wince. I've also read a few horror stories about newly-purchased cars at good prices requiring mega-bucks to sort out.Have a good look on RS246.com - most of the big issues are discussed. Having said all that, I'd buy another in a flash if only the funds would allow - was looking at the opening credits of "Layer Cake" on you tube only the other day! Jamie

Thanks Jamie,

I've yet to read anything bad about them, spent a couple of hours on RS246 and even where there's been the odd major problems people seem to think they're worth it, which speaks volumes smile

Dare I ask how many miles a tank full of motion lotion gets?

I think I used to get 200-odd miles out of a tank. That was 180 miles on busy A-roads (at a steady 70-80mph) then the remainder around town where the MPG falls through the floor. I was in the shell garage so frequently, I got on first-name terms with the cashier!
I meant to post-up that you need to look on the ThamesValley section and look under the postings of John-r who bought an RS6 and then spent shed=loads getting it sorted (most under warranty i think). Good luck with your quest - damn, I miss mine!

Hi There , I've had my rs6 for 2 years .I love it to bits , I've done most of the mods you can think of and TBH it's been very reliable .
I own a garage and specialise in the repair of rs6's so if you need any help pm me.

If you find a car make sure it's had tyres ,brakes & the cam belt done. It will suffer from drc failure at some point but don't worry it's easily fixed .
