Hi Guys,

I am looking to take a new Scirocco out for a test drive on the weekend as I am interested in looking at one for my next car.

Out of interest, is the DSG worth the extra premium or not? Additionally, does anyone know if dealers are starting to do deals/discounts on these yet? I can't imagine that they would seeing as it's such a rare and new car but any advice would be great!

Thanks!

DSG is like marmite, you either love it or hate it. Personally I love DSG but I had to change my driving style to get the most out of it. There are times when it can be fooled for example when slowing down at a roundabout and then you have to accelerate in a hurry. It can also be a bit strange pulling away until you get used to it.

Make sure you take it for a long test drive, in different traffic conditions and ensure you try all the modes out.

Based on the current climate I would expect their to be discounts about as the Scirocco doesn't seem to be selling as well as you would have thought.

Iceman - be interested in your report. Took one out a few weeks ago and felt I was sat too high - rear view mirror and where the a pillar joined the roof were in my eyeline, even though I had the seat at it lowest setting.... or so I thought... now having sat in another (really thought it couldn't be that bad) felt it was lower so may have been that cars seat was bust (dealer missed a trick not coming out to check perhaps), so may try another one now.

Have run Mk5 Golfs - GT TDi (140) and currently a GTi.. now I'm going to be commuting again very tempted with one of these in TDi spec....

Had a look at a GT a few weeks ago, very comfy seats, back is seriously cramped, everything feels nice and solid but the boot is seriously annoying, there's no button on the actual lid, you have to press a button on the key or on teh drivers door but if you use the second option, unless there's someone there to grab the lid as it unlocks as you press the button is gets caught on the 2nd latch, after 4 attempts I gave up!

Very nice looking well built cars. 2.0 TSI is best, DSG may not be for everyone. You should be able to get a decent discount, try the usual brokers like drivethedeal and coast2coast

Scirocco looks very pleasant.

I can heartily recommend DSG. Effortless. Smooth. Pop it into D and forget about it.

Infinitely preferable to a regular automatic.

Although I would agree with others in that it's a marmite thing. But no more than the old auto / manual debate.

2.0 Turbo Petrol 200bhp, similar to the MK5 Golf GTI engine.

TSI is the brand used for VWs Turbo & Twincharged petrol engines.

Thanks for the replies guys. I should be out in one on the weekend so will report back after that, though the stealer isn't being massively quick on getting back to me so will probably barge in and sort it out in person!! Also, I am taking out a Volvo C30 T5 so will see how the two compare as a lot of reviews seem to imply that they are in the same niche area, that of the "sports coupe".
