So I am now just over a week into owning a black 2 year old S6 V10 and all I can say is OH MY GOD!!!!
It is so much more than I was expecting.
Of course due to the economic cliamte I picked it up for a good price and it is just so much car for the money.
I am surprised by 3 things.
1 - Doesn't feel REALLY fast but the speedo tells me it is. I think as it is a big car it masks its speed really well.
2 - Handling is far better than expected. Makes it feel like a little car.
3 - It sounds really fruity. Everyone who has either been in it or near it can't belive how it sounds.
I was a little worried about what I would get on a long run but I did a long run in it last week and with the cruise set at 80 it gave me 25.3. Didn't expect anywhere near that.
So in summary, it looks awesome, sounds amazing, is serenly fast and when the laws change we will marry!!!

Picked it up Saturday....57 S6 Saloon in Silver....
Oh my god..........Its fantastic....you can glide along quiet as you like, but hit the loud pedal, and away you go.....
It seems to have more options in the setup than any other car I've seen!
I'd recommend it to anyone.... Seem to have one small issue with the parking sensor which may need a visit to the dealers, doesnt seem to work, get the long fault tone and the flashing orange light on the switch....a small issue really...
Happy camper though! Easily beats all the cars I've had so far and that includes a BM and a porker...

I looked at one a while ago - loads available. just had a look on Autotrader and Audi web site - only 3 Avants available nationwide - where have they all gone!!!!!!
Totally agree, and not just S6s, I'm looking for either one of those or a decent but not too expensive S4 or even an S8 but they're either very leggy (and I don't want to take a chance on that) or still big bucks...definitely seems to be a shortening of supply.I am too looking into the purchase of an S6, and finally have found a forum with owners of the V10!.
Couple of quick questions -
Impressed with the fuel consumption stated of 25mpg motorway - is this verified by calclating it manually? - I seem to recall audi trip computers been a little optomistic!
Secondly; what combined MPG would you expect/see. My use would be mostly town and single carrageway. With my current motor averaging 16-18 mpg; I was hoping the s6 to be not to far away from it?
Finally; is the V10 chain driven? - i.e. no cambelt service required??
Thanks in advance
Andy

Well I have to be honest, it was Audi's trip computer.
I commute 8 miles to work each way and get around 20 if I average it out.
I guess I am surprised at how good it is really. I was expecting it to be really bad but I am pleased.
What I can say as an update on my first impressions is that it is properly quick. I have owned and driven lots of fast stuff but this car has real deep down thrust. It's not kick in the back turbo thrust it is very linear but it is certainly more than quick enough.
Everybody who has been in it is stunned at the build, the interior ambience and the engine/exhaust note.
I am still officially in love!!!!
As to the chain v cambelt question, I can't help there I'm afraid.
If you can find a good one that has been looked after and maintained properly I would recommend one in a shot.
One last point, do an interweb search for Audi S6 Car & Driver. It's a US magazine and they are very well respected. They test it against the E63 Merc and M5. Surprising result!

I drive 35 miles each day in my 57 S6 from St albans to Milton Keynes with a mixture of dual carriage way, motor way and single carriage way roads.....I can get 22-25mpg but at the moment the fun fcator pushes me down a bit to 20mpg.....In town and around town 20 is possible but it just takes a bit of getting used to that fact that you dont seirously have to bury the right foot every time...Couple of quick questions -

It is a fantastic car, i've been after one for a while, there are a couple of lemons on the market, so pm me and I can tell you which ones these are......
FSI from audi does make a difference.....plus.......
YOU'RE ONLY ON THIS PLANET ONCE...GO FOR IT ;- >
Right, my 1st visit on the Audi forum for a while, honest answers please!!
Currently in an E60 M5 at the mo. which I'll potentially shifting after the summer (Oct 09 ish), had mine since Oct 08 and the weather has beaten it down many times so far due to the rwd...
Once I've enjoyed it this summer assuming we get one! Then I'll prob consider an S6 (amongst others!), had previously test driven an S6 about 2 years ago and was fairly impressed....
Anyone had an M5 and 'downgraded' to an S6 (not trying to insult here by the way) and did the S6 still manage to appeal?
Anything else to consider?
