Hi, bought the other half a TTs a couple of weeks ago and was reversing it on the drive (quite steep) Thursday last week (thick snow) when I noticed the front wheels spinning but not the rear and the car simply didn't have any traction? I thought the quattro system was supposed to prevent such activity?

Any ideas?

I know that this is a stupid question but are you sure it's Quatro?
The majority are FWD

They're not all 4WD - I believe Audi released a budget 150bhp model with FWD, and after a while the 180bhp one lost it's 4WD system too.

It's the 270BHP version.

If its the 3.2 then I believe that they are all Quattro ( i think)
The majority of the 1.8T and the 2.0T are FWD though.

Does it say Quattro on the back? If not then it's probably FWD

do you mean a TT or a TTS? as i think people maybe getting confused.

if reversing the haldex may not do anything? dont know for sure though

maybe worth trying in 1st to see if all wheels will spin.

All TT-S are Quattro. Doesn't explain why drive wasn't transferred to the rear wheels though. Perhaps the system doesn't apply in reverse?

You could confirm that it's 4wd by having a look under the back of the car - it will be pretty obvious whether you have half shafts going to the rear hubs.

Dealer's confirmed the TTS are all quattro because of the 270BHP. He wasn't 100% sure why the wheels behaved in the way they did but I'm beginning to suspect it's an issue with just reverse.

would be interesting to know if it kicks in in reverse or not as iirc the old S3 kicks in the rear wheels in reverse.

Doesn't Quattro send power to the wheels that are loosing grip? In your case the front? For seriously slippy conditions try turning off the ESP. That put's the car into permenent 4WD (or at least it does in the A5 and A5 Quattro).

sounds like a Haldex trait... i have only ever had TorSen cars. Two systems wear the Quattro badge.

It should not do this, if a wheel spins power should go the wheels with grip.

Book it in to your local dealer (warrany issuse)

I'm pretty sure Haldex disengages when you brake and when using reverse

Ahh, many thanks - this does appear to be the general concensus.
