It's fell off.*

Audi are saying only LHD pedal assemblies are quoted. That's right, the pedal falls off and you have to buy the whole assembly. Does anyone know if the LHD throttle pedal assembly fits the RHD cars (of which there were very few, of course, and makes me wonder if they didn't bother to quote for the 182 UK RHD cars) or if there's a fix?

The design is simple bordering on crude. It's a bendy plastic hinge that keeps on bending right up until it breaks off.

  • *My second car project, at a tender age in the 1960's, was putting a glassfibre front on a Mini. When it arrived, there were no hinges, so I wrote and asked if they could send some. The cheapest set of household door hinges arrived with a note that read, "Sorry about the hinges. These have obviously fell off."

1) Goto www.s2forum.com
2) Search for accelerator pedal
3) Fix or replace as you see fit

if its any consolation the same one in my 90 quattro fell off, and also on my older 80 quattro comprised of a lot of zipties.
not a unique issue, but a known weak link. I used two grub screws on the 90 quattro one (fell off last month)

Thanks everyone.

I cleaned it all up, removed the spring with some carefully controlled brutalism, gave the back of the pedal and the front of the lever a rub with sand paper to key the surfaces and made up loads of Rapid Araldite. This I spread around liberally and then covered the back of the whole area (and around the sides of the pedal) with Duck Tape. This held the pedal in place and stopped the glue running out and on to the carpet while it cured.

The following morning the tape peeled off easily and it's been fine ever since. The lack of sprung movement in the pedal hasn't made any difference at all.

personally I find it better without the sprung movement. I used two black countersunk self tapping screws worked fine. good to hear it glued back ok.. let us know if it stays that way, the tape backing may help matters.
