I have recently aquired myself a '91 Audi coupe 2.0E. It needs a lot of work done to it and I realise they are pretty much worthless but for lack of a better idea I'v decided I'd like to drop a VR6 engine and running gear into it. Has anybody out there any idea how easy or difficult this is...it must have been done before.

I thought about putting the coupe V6 engine in but it doesnt have as much power, is a bit heavier I believe and I want to keep the car FWD.

five pot turbo for daft power. maybe you dont know what an RS2/S2 is?

besides if i was going for more than 200 ponies i would certainly be looking for a quattro.

i had a 2.8v6 cq for 3 years, they are tunable to about 200bhp, the breathing on them is very restrictive. But anything more requires deep pockets, loads of knowledge/ time. Try finding the illusive Mance Everidge, pikes peak car builder, if your interested in a 2.8 12v and think aren't capable, his was heavily modified for running endurance track days at altitude where a turbo would suffer more.

mad conversions?
http://www.motorgeek.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=55...
its a twin turbo V8.
I know a chap in the UK who transplanted a latter 2.8V6 (30v) into a cq then added a PES supercharging kit, circa 290bhp and a wall of torque, so dont discount the V6. Its all down to your budget, knowledge base etc.

The reason most folk dont go for the V6 is it was a last of the line engine which replaced the 5 cylinders, and in 5 cylinder turbo form is still one of the best powerplants ever made in my eyes.

Before you go for a transplant, make sure the rest of the car is ready for it. You just missed a 2.8coupe FWD which sold for £650 earlier it the week,
Can i ask why you want to stick with FWD?

Hi guys thanks for all the comments.

The only reason I haven't gone for an S2 is my budget, I would buy one if I could afford it as thay seem a great car and I would love to upgrade to a quattro. The car is my mates old car that wasnt running too well so he gave it to me to work on. The only reason I was going to stick to 2WD was again down to cost and the hassle of converting to 4WD. I really dont want to spend any more than a grand on the car...but over a period of months, and that includes the bodywork and interior.

Any more ideas??

if you can do a VR6 conversion, body and interior for less than a grand i might have to eat my hand.
if its free, as it sounds then not too bad. new shoes and suspension make a big difference to the way it drives, a good handling car is a fast car.

how about 1.8 20v Turbo from a Passat or A4/A6..... easy 180+ bhp from that engine

complete car with sort tax & test are cheap now, so a car with rear end damage should be peanuts £££

I like the 1.8 turbo option could be a good way to tidy up the whole car if I buy a rear ended one ie. engine interior etc cheers for that one mate

I like the suggestion of the 2.3 20v 7A engine. With the tubular manifold and abit of tinkering you can get them nearer 200bhp and with their aggresive cams they fly once you wind them upto 4000rpm.

Huge effort involved here. The VR6 is designed for transverse installation.

The engine in your Audi is longitudinal. You really want to be dropping in either an Audi V6 12v (lazy things) or, preferably, a 5 cylinder.

How about a later 30v 2.8 V6? They fitted both the 12 and 30v v6s to various audis so shouldn't be too hard to fit.

my thoughts are , you have got a audi coupe and you want a V6 in it. You couldnt afford a S2 and you couldnt afford to buy a coupe with a V6 already in it so you want to convert a 2.0 to a V6 set up and then convert from FWD to 4WD

Have you done engine conversions before- are you aware that it is not always just a case of dropping the engine in the bay and it being "plug & play".

There is a phrase, dont build something you can buy.

By the time you have built a V6 quattro coupe from your 2.0E you could easily have bought a S2.

Not only will it sounds gorgeous (not that it wouldn't at the moment) but it will give it abit more omph too.

I was looking for a 7A as a second car when I first got the S2 but I decided to keep the 8ver as when I bought it, I got it for just over £1500 when they were being sold for over £3k and it's worth next to nothing now. No point in selling it so I'll be running it until it dies.

Still has the coldest aircon I've ever experienced in any car. biggrin
