Guys

I have a 3.0 TDI which is fantastic, but the 4.2 TDIs have come down so much its almost tempting to trade up. Has anyone had both and can comment on quite how much difference it makes, as the numbers on paper look very different.

I guess I could remap the 3.0, but then I could do that to the 4.2......

Somebody called?

The 3.0TDi is a fantastic car but your are right the 4.2TDi is in a different league. I have been watching the prices drop in the past few months and I think I will have to move the 3.0 on soon.........to Mrs D so I can replace it with the 4.2!!

Been watching for the right spec car though as we need the LWB with all the toys. I believe the addition of a remap or chip makes then quite frightening for such a large car.

Yes I also feel a test drive coming on, just contacted the dealer where bought my last one from so he can keep an eye open for a similar specced car!

I'll be deep in it when Mrs D finds out but never mind.

I have a remapped 3.0tdi and previously had a 4.2 petrol, performance is about on a par.

A remapped 3.0tdi is close to a 4.2tdi performance wise and the 3.0tdi has 135kg less over the front axle which is a big reduction. Personally I would recommend a 4.2tdi if you just like booting it in a straight line and remap on your 3.0tdi otherwise.

I had a quick look at mapping this morning. From a quick search of the sites wlling to publish numbers, the 3.0 tdi seems more tunable with a basic remap than the 4.2 tdi, which seemed a little odd. Is this the consensis or have I just stubbled accross rubbish sites

I am in Marlow - any suggestions for mapping gurus

Thanks
j

Dr G may be able to help you as he is reasonably close to Marlow I believe.

i must say the LWB was just amazingly big in the rear
leg room to die for
fancied it actualy but parking was a nightmare in normal carparks

You soon get used to it and try and pick the easier spots! Never thought I would say this but parking sensors are a godsend.
Bl**dy big car to wash and polish though, takes forever.

The parking thing is odd. I had a LWB jag for years. The length stopped being an issue at all on about day 2. You never think about it, but everyone who gets in the car commends on how hard it must be to park. It just doesn't seem to matter - and that was without parking sensors!

The A6 can be a pain in car parks and its smaller then the A8! In fact thst what put me off an A8. I find spaces are too narrow and too short. The car always sticks out.

I find parking across 4 disabled bays gives me plenty of room in my A6 hehe

I just bought a 3.0TDi, and going from the 1.9TDi its a beast, I plan on getting it remapped in the near future once I get used to it.

Enjoy, I thought there was very little else around to touch it as a fast, everyday, practical car.

we used to do alot of parking sensors etc for the sidlow group at our workshop in felbridge, the A6's you could just get in, but the A8's were so long that we gave up manouvering them and just did them outside.
Thing with parking sensors is unless possitioned correctly they don't pickup the car next to you that your just about to scrape.. I ALWAYS make sure the range is right when I install them but I've seen some that the out sensors are more that 2ft from the corners of the car.
