My OH had hew new car delivered a couple of weeks ago - 1.4T sportback stronic.

First two weeks everything was fine, now when we start it from cold the engine starts but then the revs jump around between roughly 800 - 1200. If I gently rev up to 2k revs and let it move in that area for 20 seconds or so I see a cloud of white smoke and then there is no more hunting.

Whilst driving, everything is fine.
Starting after it's been driven, everything is fine.
No error codes and the audi garage has no ideas at the moment.

Any ideas would be very welcome.

Not sure about the new 1.4T engine yet as it's still in the 1000 mile running in process, so driven very gently.

Turns out it's a known problem, too much fuel is being sent through at low temperatures, blip the throttle to clear it in an impressive cloud of smoke!

Audi are working on a software update for the ECU and will do an upgrade once it becomes available. I couldn't find out whether it only affects the stronic, the 1.4T, the two in combination or all of the new petrol engines.
