A3 2.0t s-line or MK5 GTI?????/
Discussion
We have a Golf - very good car. The A3 is nice too - but the rear headroom/legroom and boot space on the Golf is much much better than the Audi. We get 40mpg at 60-70mph, average 33-36mpg in normal driving. Never below 30.
IMO the new Golf MK6 model looks older and is not as nice inside either.

Mk5 GTI looks like a Hot Hach, the A3 S Line looks like a normal car. I'd take the Mk5 GTI any day. It also sounds better to say, i drive a golf GTI than saying i drive an A3 S Line!
Oddly I prefer the understated styling of the Audi. It's very much a matter of taste though. As for which sounds better, depends who you're talking to.
I have a mk5 GTI and used to sell new Audis.
IMHO the suspension setup on the Audi is awful and the steering feel and feeeback no where near as good either. The Audi is far to firmly setup for the UK (on many B-roads a 2.0T SE spec A3 will be faster than an S-line). I've had 2.0T A3 S-lines bump steering and tramlining all over the road - not nice!
The mk5 GTI is an awesome hot-hatch (even Jeremy Clarkson says it is a sports car that doubles up as a practical hatch). It is far more than a sum of its parts. I may be wrong but I suspect that the GTI has been optimised for UK roads, the S-line setup on A3s clearly hasn't...

Mercedes made the same mistake with there GTI rivalling A200 Turbo, the sports suspension setup is far to firm for UK roads.IMHO the suspension setup on the Audi is awful and the steering feel and feeeback no where near as good either. I have an A4 2.0TDI S-Line & yes it is a tad harsh n the ride front, although...... I had it new & it is coming up to 3 years old & I lov it to bits & has been a pleasure to own.
Having said that I purchased a ED30 for the wife four weeks ago & it is an amazing piece of kit. It is as nearly as roomy as the A4 inside, it rides nicer & the engine is a peach. No one should dis these motors ability & if you are thinking about one........own one, you will not regret it.

I used to swap cars every year but circumstances at work with parking forced me into getting something less "obvious" when left in an NCP car park. I went for a GTI. The 3 yr PCP will end in November. It will be the first car that I will ever reach the end of an agreement with and I will genuinely miss it (I haven't missed Boxster S, M3, S4) and am considering buying it and keeping it.
They aren't the fastest car on the road but you can carry a good amount of pace in them and they suit UK roads very well.
