I have around £1000 to buy a diesel motorway hack and have seen a couple of A4's for sale locally in that price range, now i'm aware of audi's reputation for reliability, but with them being so cheap am i likely to buying a pup?

Can anyone suggest anything in-particular to look for, mileage is around 100k - 150k i guess this isn't an issue?

I think the main thing on those engines is the servicing - make sure cambelts have been done at the recommended intervals (I think its either every 60 or 80k).

I've just picked up an A6 TDi 130 Avant, and its a fantastic motorway cruiser, after a mix of driving over 5 days its averaged 45mpg. Doesn't exactly handle, but the ride is excellent.

I have one of these (110hp 'AFN' engine) - a '98 quattro Sport saloon. I bought it in June '06 with 124k on the clock and it now has 166k. Apart from service items and a wheel bearing, all it's cost me is a track rod end and a couple of ball joints - front suspension is prone to wear at these sort of mileages but otherwise they're bulletproof and very good on fuel.

Cool, hopefully go and have a look at couple this weekend with a view to buy as i'm pretty desperate for a car.

Thanks for the heads up on the front suspension components, will make sure to check these smile
