Hi all, I've just bought one. Because it was there. The vendor, a mate needed funds quickly so I thought I'd do the decent thing and help him out.

I don't claim to know the first thing about them so was kinda looking for some pointers as to what to watch for, weak points and so on. It's in good nick and going by the bills i have in front of me it's had a fair few bob (12k!!!!) spent on upgrades by the owner before my Mate.

Oh and by fook is it quick.

I did a search but not a lot came up.

Cheers.

There's a B5 S4 model section on audi-sport.net which may be of use to you?

Anything in particular concerning you?

Some pointers to start you of:

Engine: cracked manifolds, MAFS, N96, Diverter valves, Boost hoses

Suspension: bushes, all of them.

Body: rust on the boot plinth.

Interior: volume knob breaks for fun (repairable), Dash LCD breaks for fun (repairable).

I like these cars and have sold a fair few, happy to natter if there's something specific you need to know smile

Hey thanks Dr G.

Nothing really concerning me at the mo, I only picked it up today. The bushes have got a mention on the MOT cert so that's something I'd need to sort and the dash LCD is bitty, if you get my drift!!
The airbag light is on too. Fixable?

It wasn't a lot of money so I took a chance. My mate hasn't really had any probs so I guess as with any car you just have to suck it and see. I'll certainly not let it worry me.

I remember years ago a chap I used to work with had an original Quattro and you mentioning the manifolds cracking rung a bell as he used to worry about that being one of the major expenses on it. Same cause would you say?

some form of buyers guide, the chap has had both a B5 S4 and B5 RS4.

Turbos i thought were the issue on the 2.7tt as they are paired. The K03's often get replaced for K04s if they fail.
Not been for a spin in one as such but the MRC one the tube is frighteningly quick.

If you're feeling flush you can buy a kit to do all the front end bushes, really transforms the feel through the steering - they just wear with age.

Can repair the LCD.

Airbag light you'll really need to get the fault code read to track that problem down.

All still available from Audi or GSF for a bit less (no idea what the quality of these is like).

Thanks.

Next question, I'm a bit handy with a spanner but is it a garage job? I've no access to lifts, presses and all that sort of gear.
