Coolant system blockage, A8 4.2 petrol
Discussion
I was on a long-ish run yesterday and about 10 miles into the journey my A8 started to overheat. I slowed down to 50mph to keep it at around 110 degree (the red marker is at 130 degrees) and then took it to an Audi dealer as soon I'd reached my destination. They said there weren't any leaks (the collant was above the minimum when I checked en route) and that it was down to a blockage in the coolant system. My car's a 2004. Has anyone else had this/heard of this?
It wasn't determined whether it was the radiator or any other part of the system, but it needs to be looked at asap. Can anyone recommend a west london audi specialist, please?
Thanks for any help given,
AKA8

Hey I have a A4 1.8t on a 2004. There is a issue with the water pumps on engines of this year as Audi in their wisdom decided to use a platic pump.......
Any new ones should be the replacement water pump, which is a after market part.
MinE went around 36,000 miles, and should be replaced A.S.A.P

I got the diagnosis back today, and it's the thermostat which is off, the water pump is ok. The very helpful man told me in 2004 Audi fitted the A8 with a water pump which has brass impellors. Apparently the ball bearings fail but the water pumps are normally fine.
I'm having cambelt and water pump changed regardless. Given the labour to get to the thermostat, another £100 on parts on a five year old car which may need more work in time, seems worthwhile. For all the work, including both relays and all tensioners the quote is circa £850 inclusive of VAT, not too bad for west London indies!
Thanks for your replies.
