Help needed on A8 2000 model

Hi, can anyone help me?
OK here goes Audi A8 2000 model 2.8 petrol, can you switch headlamps to lhd setting, or do you have to buy new units? my mate has just been quoted 1200 euros to change the headlamps.
just done aquick search on the net and it seems you can switch between rhd and lhd by sliding a lever on or in headlight casing.
