Hi looking for some advise with re-maps. I have an Audi A3 2.0T fsi. It is a standard car with 200Bhp. I have seen loads of different companys all with different out puts figures.
I am tempted with a Revo as they seem the most popular choice for VAG cars, but not sure........

Had a revo remap on my current soon to be replaced Skoda Superb,it is not the highest output possible but a decent sensible remap for the car and I had it on for 30,000 miles no issues. Quick and easy and probably my choice unless you want to go the custom remap road which in theory can get you more out of the car provided it is setup right.

You may know this already but Revo dealers offer a free 3-hour trial smile

With the free trial there have been problems in the past with taking the remap off if you don't want it, so I wouldnt go down this route lightly.

I'm glad to know that! Do you mean that you can be left with a full map without having to pay for it?!

I dont think it is a good thing, I cant really remember all the details and I dont want to incriminate anyone, but I did hear stories of the map not reverting back properly and it being fairly difficult to sort back out with the original software.

From my understanding the only times there have been problems with any tuner over writing the REVO free trial is because the "tuner" hasn't had the capibilities or the equipment to get round it and of course rather than blame their own inadequacies they blame the free trial.
Any decent tuner will have no problem getting round the trial.
Anyway, I have had REVO on all my cars and have loved everybit of it. My next change is from an 8L S3 to an C5 RS6, the S3 was stage2 REVO and will be putting REVO on the RS6 also, can't wait.

Yes I think that is right, if the dealer is good you should be alright, I used APD in Poole and I highly recommend them

There are a number of good remaps available for the VW 2.0 petrol turbo engine .... Revo, APR, GIAC, Superchips all have remaps available.

I went with Superchips for my Edition 30 Golf GTi and am more than happy with it. I can change maps and also go back to the original standard map that was on my ECU very easily via their Bluefin device.

Revo, GIAC and APR can also do this but revert to their 'standard' map which is not your own original but their equivalent (should be the same though). Their software stays on the ECU all the time even when you revert to standard whereas Superchips completely reflashes the ECU each time you change so there is never any trace you had ever remapped when reverted to standard - which some people prefer.

FWIW all of the reputable tuners give out differing figures but all seem to produce 235-245bhp on this (197bhp standard) engine ... some show higher - such as Revo - but the car they use as an example has shown higher as standard on the rolling road they used for the test. I do not think you would be disappointed with any of the maps from the main players smile

What sort of power outputs should i be looking for. Are any companys re-maps too aggresive or suffer with poor mapping?
I like the smooth power band it currently has and don't really want to end up with turbo lag and flat spots. Looks like Revo might be the way

Maybe consider MRC?
They are very well regarded for S4/RS4s and might be able to do a map for you?

Go to the respective websites and look for examples of graphs to show the power output as standard and remapped. Look at both power and torque curves to see if the power follows the original style or comes in with a huge bang. As I said, I think most of the bigger companies have refined the map and most people are happy.

Certainly Revo and Superchips have graphs on their sites and both have a good reputation. MRC are certainly another option as are BSD from Byfleet.

Revo and APR are very expensive compared to the others .... unless they have offers on - in which case though still expensive it isn't as bad ...

yes

The only company I would ever take a VAG car to in need of a re-map.

With regard power my tdi was 130bhp and revo remap claims 170bhp, it is hard to say what it actually is but from what others have said about the remap on this engine I would say it is between 160 and 170, it certainly feels at least 160.

If you take it with a pinch of salt and assume it is 10bhp less than they say that is not a bad policy!

The revo software on mine, made the car a lot smoother and progressive through the revs.

As for fuel economy, I never ever noticed any improvement.

+1 for Custom Code, mines going to get done at the end of the month. I did loads of research and Custom Code kept coming up trumps in all the reviews.

Think there's a promition on at the minute too....which is nice.

i have a CC map on my S3 and am very pleased! mpg up when driven sensibly, and the power delivery is very smooth across the band
