Need a little help with a maintenence issue - wife's aged banger has needed a little more than the annual MOT spruce up this year - noticed rear shocks leaking so have replaced them this evening, but also noticed rear brake pads virtually non existent - the caliper piston is at full extent - piston crown has indents so it's a wind back in in order to fit new pads - trouble is it doesn't want to go back in - unless anyone has any better methods going to take caliper off in the morning apply a g clamp with the odd oiled 2p on the piston & wind back in with some grips - so my question is which way to turn is retract (can't immediately find my haynes) & has anyone got any simpler methods of dealing with this??????

My A3 was a sod to do too. I borrowed the tool off a mate in the end and it sorted it really quick, cant remember which way mine wound.

Sorry, this post isnt much use!.

Well usually clockwise is to 'do-up' so would try that first, pretty sure that was the correct way on the rear calipers of a mates Audi 100.

You'll know pretty quickly.

Do you have a proper caliper winder? If you're anywhere near West London you're very welcome to borrow mine (I found out myself with the same calipers on my MK2 it's a sod of a job without).
