Hi Tame Technician
Have you ever come across this problem before? On a vw bora 1.9 pd tdi 115 bhp engine 78,000 mls.The car was driven 70 miles and parked.4 hours later car started but it wants to stall when reversing out of parking space at tickover, car accelerates ok once moving.Driving along at 60 mph around 2000rpm engine loses power and makes ticking brrrr noise, take foot off accelerator pedal and noise stops, put foot back down and accelerates ok,black smoke from exhaust, does this continuously for next 10 miles.Had a friend plug in tester and no warning lights or error codes showing.Next day 15 mile journey and no faults.Following day 70miles ok but on return journey same problems.Wants to stall at junction.Makes noise and loses power.Anybody had this happen to them.It had a new maf sensor recently and when that went it lost power but this is different with the brrrr noise from engine compartment.

1.9 tdi's are usually bullet proof.

Black smoke out the back is usually a boost leak or an EGR fault. Boost leak wont come and go, sticky EGR valve might.

Other than that no idea, never seen that fault before sorry.

EGR or split turbo to IC pipe.

I had this on a non Audi and it was a split in the pipe. Difficult to find as the pipe looked fine when not pressurised. The air was leaking through the split making a resonant sound and as the MAF was seeing loads of air going in, the car was massively over fuelled for the air arriving in the cylinders.

My lumpy running was from a huge build up of soot inside, which took a couple of days to clear once the part was replaced.
