Morning all. Questions from an Audi virgin...

Looking at buying a 2/3 year old A3 1.8T/2.0T S-line or Sport. At the dealership I drove a new 1.8 s-line black edition which had a very funky flat bottom steering wheel with stereo control buttons etc etc on it, and silver trim on the airvents/radio etc. I know this is sad, but it totally sold the car to me.

I thought this was an S-Line feature, but now have been told is part of the 'black trim' option and has only been out for about a year! The same wheel as the TT i believe.

My questions are:

1. what are the major differences between S-Line and Sport. I've been told the S-Line has sportier suspention than the Sport...seems wierd to me...

2. can the wheel and silver trim peices be bought seperately and swapped over?? i know some bits on some cars can...

Thanks in advance,

Virgil...

The wheel can definately be swapped for the flat bottomed one - and most of the trim pops off so am sure that can be done too.........on audi sport they are pretty good at part numbers and the like so you can get an idea of cost.........fairly sure from memory someone does the wheel for about £400 quid.

The steering wheel controls are an option when ordering - not sure if you can retrofit - again sure audi sport will help.

Fairly sure S-Line ride height is lower than the sport - and you get leather etc as standard that you dont get on the sport......

All the above is from memory when I was looking for a car a couple of years ago - so might be wrong.

I ended up with an 2.0 TFSI S-line - We never got on so I only had it for 9 months.

Thanks, Mate. Kinda what I thought. I'll have leather retrofitted to the car anyway as I want full leathe, not half leather, so that bit of the S-Line makes no real diffrence to me.

It's the things like the suspension that would sway me toward an S-line over a sport...

What didnlt you like about the your A3 if you don't mind me asking??

My 56 plate S-Line had full black leather - was listed on the V5 as S-Line special edition so thats maybe why it had that over half.

The car was plenty fast enough in a straight line - but it just had no feel, the steering is just very detatched, and I could just never tell really what it was doing, even on the 18" wheels - looks good and has a great interior (which is why I bought it) would be a great car for just eating up the miles on the motorway if you don't want anything bigger, but I live in London and dont drive it day to day so just didn't really need that........

Ah, fair enough. This is going to be a second car (mainly for the Mrs) and 'twas either that or a Golf...
