Hey chaps,

First baby on the way in September, so sadly my daily driver must go. Wondered if you guys could help guide me towards a sensible asking price, as I'm not that au fait with the market.

1989 Golf GTI 8v Digifant 3dr, Atlas Grey, 1 previous owner. 131,000 miles. FSH to about 3 yrs ago, then serviced by me for small jobs (service, brakes) and occasional indy usage for MOT jobs and brake fluid etc. Mileage verified by history.

Still has original tax disc holder, windscreen warranty sticker and supplying main dealer number plates and keyring, and all manuals and paperwork.

Original except front seats have been replaced by Recaro ones from a Mk2 G60 Syncro (rare and vgc).

Engine excellent, new brakes all round, genuine BBS RAs with Toyo T1-Rs, everything works except rear wiper including MFA.

Gearbox is the usual shambles - linkage needs sorting. Bodywork fair - few dings but not too bad overall. With 12 months MOT.

Thoughts?

Cheers,

Joel

Hard to value without seeing it but a decent Mk2 is worth £700-£1200 nowadays. Depends how dinged the bodywork is. By the way, check the wiring inside the rubber between body & tailgate, I bet a wire for the wiper has broken.

£700 - £1200 will get an ok one, anything up to £3-4k for a mint one there is still a massive following on these cars, if there is no bad rot such as sills/rear panel/battery tray and sunroof drain points (inside the doors above the hinge) then should be £1500 ish, atlas grey is a nice colour too, i am looking for one for a vr6 conversion

If you want to get max value for it I would sort the linkage (very cheap if fidly job) and get a quote for the dings from a mobile Dent master type outfit.

Its got good history, 2 owners including you, front recaros, sensible mileage and IMO a nice colour.

If it looks clean then advertise at £1495 and be prepared to knock off a bit to sell.

You can always lower it a little if it doesn't go after a few weeks.
