Perceptions of Mk1 Audi TT?

However I've always been tempted by a 240 Sport TT - but have some questions both about its perception and running costs.
The running costs would not be that much more than a 225. Servicing would be the same. Insurance for it is group 19. The only thing i can think of that would cost you more is the tyres. It is shod with 235/40/18 tyres which are about 30% more than a 225's 225 section tyre.Agree with everything jep says there - if I could have been bothered to write all that I would have done!

Would I change anything about mine? Yes, of course I would. First off would be a pair of Defcon adapters and bushes, and maybe a set of ARB's from the R32. I'd get it chipped up to 280-300bhp, and lower the suspension (mine's the one of the early one's before the factory dropped the height as standard). Finally, I'd put a Haldex performance controller in.
Done all of those (except my remap gives me 265/270; 280-300 takes quite a bit more money...). Defcon / R32 ARB's / Haldex perf controller really do make a huge difference to the handling, and the general enjoyment that I get from the car. Doubters should drive one with this set-up, and then comment on the handling! Edited by bungle on Saturday 8th August 22:18
I've got a 240 QS which is a great car, fast whatever the weather, at the Wilton House Sunday service I was between a TVR Chimera 500 and a current shape Mustang in the convoy, neither of which could get one up on me, and upon arriving at Wilton they both got out and said "is that a standard TT" such was their shock at its pace (the stang tried to overtake on a stretch of dual carriageway but couldn't even gain ground on me) I've not yet met anyone who doesn't like it, and theres not another car in this class that can give you the performance this does whilst still getting an average of 39mpg on the 60 mile motorway trip to work!, just put some new toyo's on it at £115 each, havn't had it serviced yet but as its just a 1.8T it shouldn't be much if any more than a 225. Overall a great car, and I highly recommend it to anyone and its worth the extra cash. Even EVO loved theirs when they had one: http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evolongtermtests/6...
