Hi All,

Started a topic re. cambelt change on an A4 cabrio 3.0V6 that i should be collecting at the weekend. Just wondering if anyone has any details of the Sat Nav system that would be fitted in the car. Its a B6? i.e. pre front end change.

Also, does anyone know where i could get my hands on a pdf version of the relevant Audi brochure from when the car was new, thought i might be able to work it out from that? Or, is there a number to contact at Audi who could tell me the original build spec of the car?

Very excited about getting the car now, just want to find out as much as i can before i get it biggrin

If its got a Nav Plus RNS-E unit in it this should cover you... just ignore the Yank Satellite radio stuff.

Thanks Cupramax, how the hell did you find that biggrin. All the info i could ever wish for, just i'm still not sure whether the RNS-E is in the 2005 A4 cabriolet, or whether its an older system? That reference guide seems to suggest MMI, which i thought was the twiddly knob by the gear stick on A6/A8 etc, but my knowledge of Audi Satnavs is pretty basic!

I guess i could just wait and see until i see the car, the garage selling it isn't an Audi specialist and doesn't seem to know much about the specifics of the satnav etc.

If anyone has an 05 A4 cab with the satnav and confirm what type it is, that would be really useful. The car was registered in March 05 if that is any help?

Thanks again for info!
Paul

Give them a bell and ask if it says Navigation Plus on the front, if not it aint an RNS-E. They did do a CD Rom based lower spec Nav model which looked similar but had a smaller red screen (not colour as the RNS-E) and it could be this you have as it was standard on the big engined models.

All I did to find that file was type in "RNS-E manual pdf" into Google... wink

Edit cant type to save my life today :O

An 05 will almost certainly be DVD Nav (RNS-E).

Not necessarilly, as I put above the CD based system (not the older RNS-D) was standard on the 3.0

Looking on Parkers Guide (not sure how accurate this is?) none of the A4 cabriolets got satnav as standard, not even the S4 cab. So hopefully it is the RNS-E system!

Does anyone have any experience of this system, is it okay or are you better off with a Tom Tom? I just like the fact that it looks tidy and finshed off nicely with the satnav system built in!

I've got one in mine so am in a good position to help;) Its great and when integrated with the factory bluetooth handsfree kit and multifunction steering wheel it makes a very good package. It does however have its limitations in that it wont take a full postcode in the Nav, i.e. you can only put in the first 4 digits and then you need to put a house number in for the road. There's no way to add speed cameras as points of interest either although there is a very good database of standard POI's including hotels, petrol stations, restaurants, airports and many many more. On the older units TMS doesn't work due to a licensing issue with Audi being tight arses at the time. If you can get a 2007 or newer Nav DVD this has been resolved though with a firmware update. The unit also has 2 SD card slots behind the flip down screen and will take 4gb SD (Not SDHC) cards alowing for tons of MP3's. You need to leave the DVD in to use the Nav so these are the best option for music unless yours has the CD changer in the glovebox. I've found it to be faultless and haven't been sent anywhere stupid like down dead ends or through rivers or any other technology based stupidity biggrin

Thanks cupramax, I appreciate you taking the time to answer! I don't think its got a cd changer in the car, so am I right in thinking that you can't play cd's if you're using the satnav! Seems a daft setup, am I misunderstanding? Is it touch screen? Also, do the directions appear on the dIs as well as the satnav screen? Re the sd cards, do you literally save mp3 files that you use for the ipod onto the card? Is there anything special you need to do to them?

Yep, quite right, you cannot play a CD in the unit while using the Nav, hence the MP3 card slots. Its not a touch screen either. If the files are DRM free mp3 files (which Itunes files probably wont be) you will be able to just copy and paste them onto the SD card. With itunes your likely to need a utility to convert to DRM free mp3 files and also be aware that the unit is touchy about the filename formatting i.e. any punctuation like commas, hyphens, fulls stops and apostrophes can cause it not to read the files. I ended up having to rename probably 10% of mine which was a bit of a pain.
