Im thinking of replacing my CLS55 with a 5.2 6 series but Im not sure of the diff between a S6 and a RS6 is one just an estate ?

Looking to get a 12 to 15 month old one but the RS6 seem to be a new model, I can only find one on the Audi site

Any advise appreciated, Im an Audi virgin smile

S6 is the 'warm' one, RS6 is the 'mental' one.

Or another way; S6 is slower than your CLS55, RS6 is faster than your CLS55.

The new RS6 came out last year... it's very quick. MUCH MUCH quicker than the S6. Also MUCH MUCH more expensive. Think BMW M5 and you are in the ball park.

The previous RS6 (I had one) is also a lot quicker than the new S6, and there are lots of second hand ones out there. They are however, expensive to keep on the road. Tyres alone are a big cost. They also suffer from silly electrical gremlins and some rear suspension issues.

As for estate... Audi use the word AVANT - so an RS6 or S6 Avant are both estates.

Very similar cars to look at, RS6 has a few extra subtle performance styling cues, very similar level of interior equipment, RS6 slightly nicer interior.

The RS6 is basically the S6 engine with two turbos attached, so considerably faster, and about twice the price when new.

Hi,

I've got a 57, S6 which I picked up with 20k on the clock for just under 30......This morning on a destricted section of work, I had a rather confused lambo driver this am wondering how nearly 2 tonnes of Ingolstadt engineering could keep up....

The RS6 is phenominal, but I prefer my S6 for now.....more refined...

the s6 saloon and avant were introduced in 2005, the rs6 was launched as an avant (estate) only in spring 2008, but in spring '09 they stopped producing the avant and switched production to the then newly announced saloon. the saloon is a touch lighter than the avant, but otherwise the specs are identical.

i have not driven an s6, but i have an rs6 avant which i bought as an ex-demo 8 months ago. very good car, delighted with it. it really is a comfortable family estate with the performance of a supercar. just don't expect it to corner like a lotus, it's a bit too heavy for that kind of nonsense !
