10,000 miles in my RS4 - Costs

After passing this milestone mileage, I thought I'd share my cost of ownership with PH.
My B7 RS4 was purchased in February 2009.
It is a July 2006 example and had only 6,300 miles on the clock.
Here's a photo of it, the day I picked her up. With the conditions as they were, it was an interesting introduction 400+bhp motoring!
FUEL
She now has a little over 16,350 miles, having driven 10,000 miles in 7 months.
Expenditure so far, has (pretty much) been fuel only!
The car has averaged around 18.75MPG per tank, running approximately 260 miles per 63 litre tank.
I've only ever used Shell V Power (or BP equivalent if essential) at an average of 107.9p per litre.
That works out to an approximate expeniture of £2,615 in the first 7 months on ownership.
MECHANICAL ITEMS
In April and May, I took the car to the Snetterton Race Circuit twice, so by June, the car required 2 new front brake pads and 4 new tyres - as far as I know these were the original items, too!
Brake pads from Audi were £297.65 fully fitted.
Tyres were supplied by my local STS Holborn at a cost of £850, fitted.
I've heard these cars burn oil - mine has required around 5 litres in the mileage covered - it was purchased from Halfords at a cost of £45.
The car sailed through it's first ever MOT in July, I was pleasently surprised to find that Audi are currently running a deal of FREE MOTs!
The car was just serviced prior to purchase, so a service isn't due for another 8,000 miles, according to the on board computer.
I have taken the car to my local Audi Dealer to get a few recall items completed, and recently it went in for the Battery Mounting recall - all under warrenty and received a courtesy car.
My car was returned in a wonderfully clean condition each time.
She has been extremely reliable, thus far, and has had only one problem - a "creaking", "whining" type noise from the front suspension. The front curved suspension arm was replaced under warranty.
NON-ESSENTIAL EXPENDITURE
I also clipped an alloy on a curb, so a local repair was undertaken at my Audi Dealer, costing £60
Two weeks into ownership, a stone chipped the paint dented my bonnet, so a trip to the bodyshop was arranged for March. It cost £763.14, which included some Ventureshield plastic to guard the new paint from stone chips.
In April, a TRACKER system was fitted at a cost of £345.
TOTALS
In 7 months, I've spent £2,360.79 on the car PLUS £2,615 on fuel.
Total expenditure 4,975.79.
That works out to around £710.83 per month which isn't bad for 10,000 miles in a sports saloon! It's certainly cheaper than my old Merc
WHAT's NEXT?
The car was supplied with 6 months Tax, so that will be the next major expenditure, costing £400 per year.
Also, one alloy wheel is flaking where a poor refurb was previously untaken - this will cost just shy of £100.
Now the car is out of warrenty, I've been looking in to modifying the engine with a REVO Technik software upgrade. Stage 2 will set me back £865 including an exhaust
After 10,000 miles, I still adore my Audi. She brings a smile to my face every time I drive her.
I've had nothing but a supreme service from my Audi Dealer.
Also, after this time and mileage, I think she still looks pretty good! This photo was taken on Sunday 6th Spetember
So far, so good!

Don't forget RS4s have appreciated a bit since the beginning of the year too.
OK, maybe not to the tune of £4k, but enough to make that smile even bigger.

Yes it was rather interesting in the snow! Especially as I had come from a 220bhp, RWD, automatic Mercedes!As for turning heads, it seems to turn a fair few. It appears to be petrol heads, and the VAG group who really know what it is, while some people I think hear the exhaust and see a bright blue car!
Touch wood, it's never had any "wrong" attention, though

I love this about the car. The fact that most people think mine is just an estate car is very funny sometimes. Before you all start I managed an average of 27mpg so you know i treated this with respect. All this from a 6k mile example from a main dealer and I know the previous owner. Sorry for the comments but this is such a flawed car...please take the blinkers off.Thats means if I got rid of the house I could have one...

Great topic and very encouraging. I'm looking for one of these preferably black avant too but it depends on what comes up once I sell my 335i. Can't wait for the V8 rumble and Q car of the the avant. Not married, no kids just want the flexibility of the avant. Jibes or not.

Yup, my Dad in his Aston, along with myself in the Audi have been to 2 track days this year at Snetterton
ETA: I just had a look at your profile and the car you mention is ringing bells....were you the chap I spoke to who came with the Leon Cupra R chaps?

I am told the carbon issue will affect all RS4's as it is due to an incompatibility with the engine oil VAG recommends. In addition, those who have tested their RS4's on a rolling road have found the BHP output to vary wildly from car to car and fall way short of the manufacturers specifications. Whilst I liked my RS4, I could not put live with the continued issues and time it took to research potential fixes.
DRC does unfortunately seem to list Dairy Milk as one of its major components, which is unfortunate as it's bloody good in the RS4 when on song. I don't know why it fails or what Audi will do about it in the long term.Wouldn't say for sure but I would hazard a guess that some of the repeat problems that occur are down to fitting rather than manufacture; I've noticed that where 'some' components are replaced rather then the whole system they don't seem to last anywhere near as long as the factory install or where the system has been replaced in full. Not a hard and fast rule mind...
Oil consumption is very well documented and in the manual.
Carbon buildup is potentially worrying but other than very very low mileage cars I've never had cause to complain about performance. Only had one car that I thought was excessively smokey but even that cleared up nicely after it had done some miles at more than 30mph.
