Passat window DIY?

Hiya peeps,

Yesterday my 53 plate TDI (the red badge one) decided that the rear passenger window wouldn't go down.

I can hear the motor working, and can manually push the window down, it goes up fine. Just seems like the motor has lost grip on the window and cant pull it out of the sealed/closed position.

Is this an easy fix, or dealer job? Tempted to open the window manually and just force it down into whatever magic device is down there... hmmmm don't fancy causing more damage though.
