Every now and then the little LED display on the dash flashes up with 'Brake' and beeps fairly loud.
Brakes seem fine, no squeaking and the car stops fine.

Help. . .

Could be the wear sensor on the front pads telling you it's time for replacements.

It's interference from the battery cables apparently as one runs close to the reservior. Happened on mine, and the main dealer fixed it. Not sure if they re-routed the cable or wrapped it in tin-foil. Common problem.

This is indeed common but only applies if the brake warning come on during or just after cold start, the extra load on the battery and starter brings on the problem. A slightly flat battery will do the same thing.
