have tried ever parts dept in N London - it appears they're all on a tea break

I need the clip on the front of the arm rest, mine got caught on the mrs' sleeve last night and has now broken off

Is it a B6 A4?

I did the same and you need a new top section, was circa £50 from VAGparts when they were on the go. Plus it needs to be in the same finish as your car interior. fairly easy job to do yourself.

they've just gotten back to me £66 + VAT

the annoying thing is VW sell the Golf equivalent part - £4.50...

the golf has to be the clip only at that cost, Speaking for the A4 it was the top section all the way back to the hinge, covered in fabric/leather.

Annoying as i never used the arm rest! tip it back and it opened the lid and dumped contents into rear footwell. I feel your pain...

VAGparts were very good for just this sort of thing, since then i have used either GSF or Peter Reeve at Quattro Corner.

Audi supply only, I've tried GSF, ECP, etc

Yup, got to change the top of the arm rest. Those things break for fun in A3s, 4s and 6s - the 6 being the only one where the clip can be replaced independently.
